At risk of diabetes
Hello
Just joined -I am at risk of diabetes and my mother died of complications caused by Diabetes

Welcome to the forum @Isadora03

Sorry to hear about your Mum.

Have there been any changes in your circumstances, or any symptoms that have developed that have prompted you to join the forum, or are you just aware of the increased risk from having close family members with diabetes?

It’s good to have others walking the same path to exchange experiences with.

Diabetes is a potentially serious condition, but it’s also one which can usually be managed well with a few changes, and adjustments. And it shouldn‘t stop you from doing things you really want to.

Hi Isadora03
Sorry about your mother. Taking action means that you can almost certainly avoid that fate.

Have you had blood tests for Blood Glucose? They call it HbA1C
I'm assuming that it is Type 2 Diabetes you are at risk of, but even if it is Type 1 you can help control your Blood Glucose by cutting down of Sugar and Refined Starches - known in here as Carbohydrates or Carbs.

Surprisingly, Carbs make people over-eat and make them fat (particularly when combined with fat).
But Protein and Fats are essential for life where carbs are not !
So it is best to cut carbs rather than fat, go Low Carb rather than Low Fat.

Hello @Isadora03 and welcome from me as well.

Have you been diagnosed as pre-diabetic by your GP team?
If not, and you would like to check your risk, then there is a useful link on the main Diabetes web site that you may find helpful: https://riskscore.diabetes.org.uk/start.
There is also information on what you can do to help the areas of risk that you can effect.

There is also a great deal of knowledge and information available on this forum, so please ask whatever questions you may have and let us know how things go.

Very best wishes
