At risk of diabetes
Hi
Been ill the last 5 weeks.
Doctor have said my kidneys, liver and thyroid is fine.
Glucose a bit high but was told no further action needed to be taken.
Took a fasting test yesterday, 5.7
Am in danger?.
The pharmacist said no....

I'd agree with the pharmacist 🙂

I am happy with 5.7 mmol reading on a daily basis, I think a lot here would be too. I have been ill for around 4 weeks and I did get into probs with Blood glucose levels rising to 20.3 mmol, had to get paramedics out so you can see the comparison. 5.7 is generally pretty good.

But of course you are talking about the HbA1c 5.7 over 3 months. that is in the prediabetic range which can be reversed / controlled by diet and exercise.

Hello Chris,
Sorry to hear that you are ill, but as Jodee says, 5.7 is a reading well within the normal range for blood sugars.
Maybe you need to get some further advice from the medics regarding what could be the cause of your other symptoms.
I have not tried it but I believe that the NHS 111 helpline, can offer some help if you are really worried about how you are feeling.
Hope things get better soon.

I made a mistake though, I ate some fruit 2 hours before hand. I didn’t think.

The doctor said I am ok, run down but still, worried and I don’t want to have panic attacks.

So many people have said you are ok Chris, the pharmacist, the doctor, people here, but you are not believing that, you don't need to be worried about your blood glucose everthing is just fine, just focus on building yourself up with good diet and perhaps a multi vitamin and mineral to take with food, drink plenty of water to flush out any remaining toxins left over from the illness, and maybe take some me time by doing some breathing, relaxing, meditation or mindful practise, loads of videos on you tube you could use, 10 - 15 minutes ones daily until you feel calmer and safer in health. If you do start getting panic attacks then you will need to go back to your doctor to discuss this issue or you could just start now learning how to help prevent panic attacks through NHS pages or you tube, the choice is yours. As patients to some degree we do have to take some responsibility for our own health situation, doing what we can alongside the professionals advice.

Best wishes

no no no, I get that, thank you. Panic attacks is something I normally have anyway. Responsibility is the key.

The only thing I don’t know and the doctors can’t tell me is when I had a blood test for overall health, no number was given about the high glucose.

Check with your doc when you had your last full blood count (that is the overall blood test) the HbA1c test done (you've already said it was 5.7 which is fine) so your HbA1c has been done. These concerns you have need discussion with your doctor, diabetic nurse, you will need to try and get your panic attacks under control same as manage our blood glucose levels, close to what your current levels are. Assurance that your levels are ok should not be triggering a panic attack but your internal dialogue might do that.

You could print off the list of 15 essentials and without worrying about if they've not been done, make another appointment and go through the list with your doctor ticking of the tests carried out and ones that may not have to get those checked, its just routine procedure and good to know all are being carried out annually while you blood glucose levels are under control. You could ask for copies of these test results too to keep as a comparison against your next annual check if you so wished.

The test I did yesterday was only a prick test, that one gave 5.7. I’ll calm down, get my head around this. I hope you all will be better with your diagnosis

finger prick test 5.7 as I originally posted is good.

Can you reverse your diabetes?.

Sorry to hear you've been ill @Chris1980, but as others have said a fingerstick reading of 5.7 is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

People's blood glucose levels rise and fall throughout the day. If the 'high glucose' reported was also a fingerstick, it's perfectly possible that this was just a normal fluctuation (and possibly the body being under stress with illness).

If you can know the result of your HbA1c that would give you much more of an idea, because that test is not swayed by occasional short term glucose variations.

Welcome to the forum 🙂

When doctors, nurses and others here have said I am fine, I try to believe what you all are saying.
The overall blood test wasn’t specifically about diabetes but to check the condition of my kidneys, liver and the thyroids. Normal blood pressure, just high glucose level, I don’t know how high it is. The H1 test I will take in 3 weeks time. I am not tired, just down with this.

Thanks. I need help with what to eat and how much of it.

Is there an equipment I can use to check my glucose level on a daily basis?. if I have high level of it, do I need medication to drop it, or are there other ways?.
