Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi

Have been thinking about joining a site loike this for a while, but only just made that final decision.

I am a type 2, and have been "officially" diabetic for two years. Current medication is Metformin, Glyclazide, Byetta, with a statin to maintain low cholesterol.

Diabetes still not under "control". Last HBA1C was 10.1, but has consistently come down from 11.9 over the last two years.

Just looking to make some new friends, and maybe gain some info about where im going wrong??

Many thanks

Mandy

Youve came to the right place, Welcome.................🙂

Hi Mandy, welcome to the forum 🙂 You'll find lots of friendly help and support here, so I'm very glad you joined us! There's nothing like sharing experiences with people who understand and we have all ages and experience here, so whatever your question there is usually someone around either wanting to know the same thing, or with an answer for you 🙂

Although you've been diagnosed a couple of years, it can still be helpful to refresh your knowledge, so I'd recommend you have a look at our 'Useful Links' thread here: http://www.diabetessupport.co.uk/boards/showthread.php?t=10406

Highly recommended is the book by Gretchen Becker: Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year which will no doubt make you look back over the past couple of years and possibly spot where improvements might be made. We'll get that HbA1c lower! 🙂

Thank you both.

I have to admit to not having been very good over the past couple of months, and being a bit rebellious about it all i suppose 😡

But my only resolution this year was to get myself back in control of this thing....

Will go to the the thread you recommend Northerner.

And btw i may live in the south, but i was born in Ripon!!!!

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum, im in the process of coming of byetta but im still on the metformin.

How long have you been on the byetta??? It really helped me to start, but i seem to be "stuck" at the moment.

I have lost a fair amount of weight since i started it, but nothing much for the last 6 months (1/2 stone maybe??)

But as i said in my last post, i havent really been helping myself much. All that is changing now though, i just need to maintain it.......:(

Welcome to the forum Mandy, I am type 1, but there are alot of people on here with type 2 that can offer support and advice. Ask anything, but I'm sure your not doing anything 'wrong'. best wishes Sheena x

Thanks for all the welcome msgs.

Unfortunately i have been doing things wrong, and I know it. Really really silly, but at least i have admitted it (at least to myself if not anyone else other than on here).

For some reason, i have really struggled with the fact that I have Diabetes (as well as other things!!!) so i havent been a good girl and taken all my meds properly/eaten right. I think when i was first diagnosed it was a relief, but over the last 3 months i have become quite resentful of it!!!! However, its a new year and i am being sensible again.

I know what i need to do, and i absolutely intend to stay on the right path, and not let other things/situations take me off it again!!!!!

I might just need the odd kick in the pants to keep me there, 🙂

hi and welcome x
im too going to have to be much stricter on myself from now on, following my meds needing to be increased after 2 years on very little ..i think it has brought it home how serious this is so i wish you all the best with your new determination to get things back under control x🙂
