Hi, I was diagnosed in 2004 and have not had very good treatment so far. Was diagnosed as Type 2 but after two bouts of ketoacidosis was told that in fact that I was Type 1!
Went on to "human" insulins and had a terrible time with it. Was found sitting on a church font stuffing sweets after the fourth hypo of the day by a man who without asking if I was diabetic asked what insulin I was on.
He put me in touch with a charity that is campaigning for Pork and Beef Insulins to be continued and not withdrawn. It took me another 2 years to get on to Pork Insulin and am doing much better with it.
I get very frustrated with this condition but think of it as a blessing in a way as it causes (or should) us to eat healthier, we get free prescriptions whether we are working or not, get foot care which many people cannot and when things do go wrong (I recently had a bit of a heart scare, turned out to be nothing) you are taken more seriously.
Was having a hypo once during an interview with my pastor. He panicked and I just asked for biscuits and mused "D'you know, I quite like this condition. At least the treatment can be pleasant!"
Get very lonely with this thing though. Nobody to talk to about how others deal with problems. Glad I found this site.
