Metformin and jardiance aren’t doing the job due to my binge eating and comfort eating post some life trauma- nurse today said Glicizide or Trulicity- I decided the latter so I can hopefully shift the xcess 1-2 stone
However I had to make the decision in about three minutes and my anxiety is hitting hard that I might have made the wrong decisionn

Welcome to the forum.
Hopefully a few people will chip in who are familiar with those meds but it strikes me that more and more meds are being thrown at you to resolve your situation when what you really need is help with your eating habits. Either with a dietician or counselling to help you come to terms with your life trauma to help with your comfort eating.
Many people suffer similar issues and hopefully you will find some words of wisdom from them.
Do you know what your HbA1C is now as it will indicate where you are in terms of how much you need to do.
Changes to your diet are going to be as powerful as more and more meds.

And yes had a discussion with family tonight about trying to get some therapy …
I am aware of what I’ve been doing wrong- hence why I joined here- hoping popping in here each day will keep me on the straight and narrow
I think the meds idea is to help get the blood sugar down as it’s been high for quite some time but she did say if I can get to grips with it all, lise weight and eat better I might in time be able to reduce meds

Hi Lilies, welcome to the forum.

Glad that you've joined us as many people struggle with diabetes and diet following life challenges so you're not alone.

Now that you know your HBA1c, you've got a goal to work with and can measure your progress as you go along.

Comfort eating is the part that may be a bit more tricky. I found it helpful to take an honest look at what I'd eat during the week and see whether there were any 'better' substitutes that I could use.

We've got some really helpful pages on info on our main site and on our forum so do have a look around and let us know if there's anything we can help with.

Here are a few to start you off

Hi welcome I’m now 7 months in. It was scary at first I was 67 and my first three months I was very strict no treats low carb, lots of fruit and veg. I did something’s the nurse said but I still had full fat things ( butter, cheese, yoghurt) all though it was Greek yoghurt Didn’t cut down on salt or fats although I did eat heathy and still do now, I’m now down to 37, you find you taste bubs change there is things I used to love which now I don’t like anymore mainly rsweet stuff. I eat more nuts than I ever have. I started walking every day and yes it was hard at first and had to stop a few times to get my breath and weighting 26 stone but I kept going. And 7 months on and nearly 7 stone lighter I have just walked 12 miles and I now don’t stop to get my breath I still have a long way to go but I set myself little goals and so far I’ve smashed every one. I have a few big goals too but they are a long way off.
So please keep going, and never give up

I know it is a little late for this for you, just posting here in case anyone else is reading along.

Looking at what types of medications could be offered to you and researching before any chats is a good idea if a medication adjustment is likely.
https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-t...treating-your-diabetes/tablets-and-medication is a good starting place (the link is for type 2 meds).

I personally don't think it is unreasonable to ask if you can call back and let the receptionist know your decision and have a prescription sorted out from there, allowing you some times to weigh it all up. At the end of the day it is YOU taking the medication and it isn't always a decision you can make on the spot as most have side effects or a regime that may not fit your lifestyle.

I hope you are more settled in your decision and hope it helps support your weight loss efforts 🙂

From a personal standpoint, gliclazide has been a nightmare with weight loss efforts and I'm hoping jardiance with it will just make them cancel each other out - wee bit early to tell yet but I would rather 2 things promoting weight loss.

Thank you for all the support- I took on board the reply from @Leadinglights and decided to be really strict with myself the last few days in terms of not constantly nibbling and eating low carb and start monitoring my blood sugar properly - well I’m getting great results so I suspect I won’t need the extra med if I can keep this up

Best of luck @Lilies, it is really hard going to start with, but I found the increased energy I had, and the loss on the scales gave me more pleasure than the chip butties and other carb heavy foods I was so fond of especially when I needed something to comfort me. You should be so proud of yourself that you've taken the first steps 🙂
