Hello all,

I was diagnosed at the beginning of December but did not see the diabetic nurse until 2nd Jan. I was put on Metformin and now take 1000mg twice a day. I have been lucky enough to not have the side effects.
I started with HbA1c of 81 and now down to 63 and lost 4.5kg. Feel good about that but I was not expecting to have such a roller-coaster of emotions about the diagnosis.

Hi Lorraine, glad you found us - and well done on your results so far 🙂 Diagnosis can be a big shock and lots of people on here will recognise your roller-coaster. This is a lovely friendly forum - so make yourself at home. 🙂

Hi Lorraine, welcome to the forum 🙂 That's a great improvement in such a short time, well done 🙂 Although it's not great to get diagnosed with diabetes, it's far better than remaining undiagnosed - you've been able to make a start on tackling it and getting things under good control 🙂 High or fluctuating levels will play havoc with your emotions, so it's not surprising that you have been feeling the roller-coaster. Hopefully, things will start to settle down as your body adjusts 🙂

Well done on the weight loss 🙂 If you have any questions or concerns, please ask away - no question is considered 'silly' and we are always here and happy to help 🙂

When anyone is diagnosed with a long term health condition it does take sometime to adjust.

I'm still adjusting after three years Lol 😛

Welcome to the site Lorraine, from a fellow T2.

Hallo and welcome.
I was kinda relieved in a way when diagnosed...had no idea what Diabetes was and thought I had something terrible like...well, name any horrendous disease and it probably went thru my mind, so I've been ok. At least this thing is manageable and you can improve your lifestyle which I've adjusted in a positive way. I feel healthier and can work all day now without feeling knackered, foods not a problem as I'm a savoury not sweet kinda person.
I was diagnosed at 98 in Feb. Ever since being on meds and eating right my bg has been under 8 normally between 5-7. I have a Hb test early May and I want a lot lower reading like you did.
It's a Marathon not a sprint so just keep on living the same, read this forum and just keep on track 🙂
Brandon.

Congratulations on the progress, I too was on a roller coaster of emotions as I was bringing my BG under control, happy to say that my emotions are more stable than they have been in several years.... My Wife is happy about that, no more bad temper etc....
