I used to be vegetarian but realised for me it was too carby. Beans and lentils spike me. But I can get away with a red Dahl soup with plenty of low carb vegetables, so I make a pot every week. What’s your favourite protein to add to a meal?
How have you found the addition of NR and Lantus? Has it improved your BG management? Have you been given information about balancing your meal carbohydrates with NR doses? And in tweaking your Lantus dose to just provide background support?
@Inka has some helpful information / links about plant-based eating to help with insulin resistance I think?
There are so many more options and choices for plant-based foods these days aren’t there?
We are more flexitarian as a household with a mix of vegan and largely veggie meals, but not exclusively so. We often opt for differing forms of tofu / bean curd. Or some of the mycoprotein (Quorn) options. Along with things like nuts and seeds. I’m a little cautious about some of the mega-processed items that have surged into the supermarkets in recent years though.
I’d rather make a chilli with veg, lentils, beans, and mushrooms than buy a pack of mince-substitute personally.
Here’s an update on my problematic glucose readings during my holiday in Italy.
All the advice you gave @Inka was incredibly helpful. I am very confident that the problems were directly related to the extreme heat and of course my change in eating times and diet.
I put everything you suggested into action and my extreme lows definitely got better. I mostly stopped getting overnight hypo’s maybe just a couple and even then not so extreme.
The annoying thing though was that in my last week a scratch I got on my leg refused to heal and became infected and started to look like Cellulitis. So, after a trip to a pharmacist I had to stop going onto the beach and into the sea . It cleared up after I got home.
Mike, I find Novorapid and Lantus are the way to go. I feel like I am so much more in control (except obviously when I’m in extreme heat ).
I have been vegetarian for 30 years and Vegan for 13 of those years. I can’t imagine being anything else now and I believe it helps me feel healthy even when I’m not .
