Type 2
Well, what a day... after a few days of worrying test results i finally got the diagnosis... i am type 2 now.. and yes that was given to me at 8:30am today...

So uh hi?

Welcome to the forum, BlackroseDarkthorn. Sorry you have to join us.
Are there any things you'd like to ask about eg diet, exercise, medication (if you've been prescribed any), body weight (if you're overweight).

Hi Welcome. It does come as rather as shock doesn't it. Please Try not to panic . With the right info, change of diet , meds if necessary and some exersize if able, diabetes is a manageable condition.

How did you come to be diagnosed ? It's not unheard of but you're quite young at 26 to be dx (diagnosed) with T2 .

Now your probably thinking what on earth can I eat, or have been told to lower/stop sugar. Well the good news is we get to eat good tasty food rather than rabbit food.

Feel free to ask question ok , we'll do our best to help

Well i was diagnosed due to other medical issues, i kept getting ill so my Dr decided to run some blood tests. blood draw on tuesday came back on weds as 17 mmol, my thursday results i got today were about 13mmol. lastt time i weighed myself i was about 16-17 stone.

ive been given Metformin for now, and referred to a dietitian. for now i have only made the sugar change into sweetener and i plan on trying to organise my life a bit more. Luckily i have a friend who is Type1 who will be able to guide me through a lot of it irl as well.

Hello BlackroseDarkthorn, welcome to the forum. 🙂

Hi again. I'm sure your friend will be able to guide you through a lot of it.
Basically its carbohydrates our bodies can't handle too well, sugar s just another carbohydrate.
For the time being, till you find what suits you, just cut down not cut out on the white carbohydrates, potatoes esp mashed, bread esp white pasta, rice and products made with flour.
Instead till you find suitable substitutes fill up on veg that grows above ground, some root veg can be quite carby. We I have to be careful with fruit, berries are often tolerated better, grapes are little sugar bombs, fruit juice is best left alone.

Just to give you a few ideas
If you eat meat, meat is no problem for us, nor are very high meat content sausage and burgers (I love Black farmer sausages) , eggs cooked anyway you like, butter, cheese, fish but not in batter :D, some nuts are low carb, , many here have Burgen linseed and soya bread, lidl protein rolls or a high protein bread, a couple of small new potatoes are often fine, the good fats are not bad for us unless you have a condition that means you have to avoid fats.
I have a couple of small new potatoes .

We have some good info and links about handling diabetes.

Welcome from a fellow T1

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Hi and welcome to the Forum. It is a good idea to test with a machine to find out what is best for you to eat. Most people here can eat high meat sausages but I cannot. I had an horrendous result with sausage the other week although, to be fair, I did go down with a sore throat, cough and cold the following day and I know that can affect things.

Lot s of people cannot tolerate porridge but I can. It all depends on the person.
