Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hello everybody ^_^

My name is Aimee, but Titch is just fine 🙂 I'm 28, Type 1, have been since I was 9. I had told Mum I had a bad tummy (as I didnt want to do P.E at school) and must have done a good job blagging it because she took me straight to the doctors, mentioned the weight loss and drinking absurd amounts and the weird "episode" I had at Christmas 1 month earlier and that was that!

Fast forward to now - I have been struggling with T1D rather than living with it admittedly, my health has declined quite a bit and I have hit many a wall. However I am currently 31 weeks pregnant with my first baby - and boy did I underestimate how tricky it was going to make Diabetes life

Anyway it would be super cool to meet like minded people, who get what it's like, have had similar experiences and like a good laugh at Diabetes memes (and the occasional moan I'm sure)

Hi Titch, welcome to the forum 🙂 Many congratulations on your pregnancy! Sorry to hear you have been struggling with your diabetes, hopefully we can help you get things under better control. There are loads of people here who can empathise, so if there are any questions you have, please ask away! 🙂 What insulin are you on? Do you have any particular problems you can put your finger on?

Hi Titch and welcome
Im newly diagnosed type 2 , the people on here have been lovely getting me through my first couple of weeks

I wondered if you could describe your “ weird episode “ , as I have had a few of those before and docs have said focal epilepsy , but am wondering if it is in fact the diabetes

Hi Titch just like to welcome you to the forum.🙂

Ah hello! Apologies for the late reply - I spent 4 weeks in and out of hospital with a kidney infection! Just something else to add to my list!

The weird episode - I guess I would describe it now as feeling as if I was in DKA and having a hypo. Which was awful. I was incredibly nauseated, I remember laying down on the tiled floor in our kitchen because I was hot, sweaty and faint and the cold on my face eased the sicky feeling a bit. My poor Mum! She got me some water, I cant remember eating anything (I am terrible for eating if I feel like I'm going to throw up) and soon after it had started I was alright again. Really bizarre. @Samseal6 - how are you finding life with diabetes so far? I know a few people with type 2 and they all have quite different experiences.

So I am now 34 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Not feeling poorly but extremely tired as I've become severely anaemic! :D Baby is a big boy and there is every possibility that he will be delivered at 37 weeks apparently, rather than the usual 38! Very nervous for my last growth scan now.

Sorry to hear about the infection El Titcherino. I hope it's well on it's way to being clear.

Thank you!! I've so far had to go for fortnightly bloods, I'm now on weekly bloods (insert running out of blood joke) and daily Clexane injections on top of my insulin 🙂 but no more antibiotics so at least the vomiting has stopped! Seem to be clear of the infection now!

Hope all goes well with the birth. Well done for managing this well so far in the pregnancy. 🙂

Hey Titch,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the baby! I’m 28 and T1 for 22 years, also struggling with complications lately. Completely relate to your feeling of struggling rather than living with this. I feel like we might have a lot in common, so feel free to drop me a message any time for peer support or just a laugh 🙂

Ah hello and thank you very much! I will do that! It's always good to meet other people who "get it" and not have to deal with the confused faces of people who just really don't! :D
