Hi Tom, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but hopefully we will be able to help you get a handle on it and learn to manage it well. You can live a perfectly normal life with diabetes, and many people find that their diagnosis is the spur to a better diet and healthier lifestyle, so they end up feeling better than they ever did before!

Have a look at the relevant sections of our 'Useful Links' thread, in particular Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter for a good understanding of what to expect and how to go about tackling it 🙂 Are you on any medication for your diabetes?

Good morning Tom, welcome to the forum.

How're things on your side of the pond? Are the Republicans behaving themselves? (Although I hear things are getting a little 'down and dirty'!).

I hope we can help. However, your politicians are your own 'problem'! :D

Andy 🙂

Welcome to the forums Tom 🙂

Good morning Tom,
Welcome to the forum

Welcome Tom, we hope we can help you with your concerns.

Lay off the Outbacks, Friendly's and Wendy's that will help :D

Look forward to seeing you here again

John

Welcome Tom.

We'll help where we can, although most of us know far more about NHS (National Health Service) in England / Wales / Scotland/ Northern Ireland (it's a bit different in each constituent country of UK / United Kingdom) than American healthcare.

However, general principles of diet, exercise and weight control are the same the world over! 🙂

Hi Tom. Welcome 🙂

Good to see we're reaching out further west than Ireland. I hope we can offer some help.🙂

Rob

Welcome to the forums Tom. I hope you find them useful. You may find are discussiond on blood glucose readings a little confusing as we use a different measure we use mmol/L and you use mg/dl.

For instance if we say 4 you would say 72. If we say 10 you would say 180

You are not on your own!

Sometimes its just good to know you are not alone - me too - new to this mallarky - this is a bit like 'dear diary' but the diary talks back! I was diagnosed in March last year & still working through it all but find I am a healthier person & much fitter - for me these are benefits to having diabetes - so it's not all bad!! I had to go through 'cold turkey' with regards to maltesers - I still miss them - but its a small price to pay for my health!!!
Keep smiling! 🙂

Hi Tom welcome to the forum 🙂
