Hello

Not my first post since joining a couple of days ago but thought I'd formally say hello as a newby.

Diagnosed T2 in 2005 and have struggled ever since to maintain control. I'm fine until I go into denial which usually happens when we have visitors or we're away from home.

After my most recent test results, my GP said "there are easier ways to kill yourself" - wake-up call or what!! New meds (for the next couple of weeks anyway are: - Januvia 100mg x 1; Novonorm 2mg x 3; Metformin 1,000mg x 3; Simvastatine 20g x 1; Tareg 80mg x 1; Kardegic (Aspirin) 75mg x 1

Thankfully, there are no serious complications at the moment so I really need to keep it that way by taking control. Just wish my feet didn't burn so much but they're not so bad now that I'm back on track.

Thanks in advance for any support that may come my way.

Bonjour et welcome! I am Type I but am sure ze Type II's will be along in ze morning! Nerve damage in the feet is not really reversible but good control can relieve the symtoms. Good luck!

Hi Margaret and welcome to the forums

It sounds like when you have guests or go away - you are trying to live your old pre-diabetes life - or is it that you don't want your visitors or fellow holidayers to comment on you not eating certain things. You want to be the same old person to them (I am only guessing).

Although you may not want to announce your diabetes to the world - maybe you could say to your friends - that you are trying a new diet to improve your health so will be avoiding x y and z.

Hi Margie and thanks for your welcome. All my friends know that I'm diabetic but they have no idea of what's needed to control it. Sadly, I do and get so angry with myself when I go into denial. I love to cook for our guests and I enjoy food but I know that I'm fast running out of time to gain and maintain control so am using the next couple of months before people start arriving for the summer and a couple of trips away to finally sort myself out. Doing ok at the moment.

Welcome to the forum Margaret,

I've just gone through a period of complete denial, but with an earlier period of pretty obsessive control I think I got away with it!

My concentration has mostly been on weight loss and that has put me on a sound footing concerning overall control (my last HBA1c was 5.9%).

But it can be difficult trying to be good all the time! But on the other hand, I do find that I feel so much better and healthier when I am!

Andy 🙂
