Hi folks, VERY new to this type of thing ,diabetic for years but just gettin round to finding out more about self help. and thanx for lettin me join

Hi @Rafferty58 and welcome to the forum.
How have you been controlling your Blood Glucose in the years since diagnosis? Which medications are you taking for it (if any)? Have you changed your diet?

Hi and welcome.

So pleased you have found the forum because self help is becoming increasingly important with our health as the NHS crumbles. Becoming knowledgeable so that we can manage our condition to the best of our ability means we are less reliant on the stretched NHS resources and the forum is a gold mine of practical experience, tips and support from people who have been there and got the T-shirt, so it is pretty much well tried and tested.

Would you like to tell us how you manage your diabetes. Things like ;-

Do you take any medication for it and if so what?

Have you made any dietary and lifestyle changes and how are you managing with that?

Do you know your most recent HbA1c result? ...This is the blood test used to diagnose and track your progress with diabetes and will usually be a number in excess of 47 unless you are being very successful with your management in which case it may be less.

Do you have much/any weight to lose?

Is there anything that you are finding particularly challenging?

Feel free to ask whatever questions you have, either here or on a new thread. I found reading other people's posts helped me to learn a lot, so maybe make yourself a cuppa and have a bit of a read and make yourself at home.

Welcome to the forum @Rafferty58

Glad you have found us!

It can be so helpful to have others alongside who are facing the same challenges and struggles every day. Either for practical hints and tips (and suggestions picked up from dozens of other appointments with GPs and diabetes nurses) or just for the camaraderie, and knowing you are not alone.

Ask away with any questions you have - nothing will be regarded as too obvious or 'silly' 🙂
