Hi everyone. I’ve been lurking for a while but felt a bit too in limbo to post.
A bit of back-story…. I’m 39 (for the next 7 days at least), had gestational diabetes in both of my pregnancies and have been expecting this for a long time, which annoys me even more because I could’ve prevented this. Pregnancies were 2012 and 2014, and following both I was never offered an HbA1C, until I badgered them in 2021 (result 41, a warning I should have taken notice of). Finally got invited for a test in early October and it was 52. I was told I’d need a second result for diagnosis so had another test yesterday. It’s down to 45 so pre-diabetic. I’ve worked pretty hard since October to bring this down by cutting out pasta, rice, cake, biscuits, almost all chocolate (apart from a little bit of dark), and cutting right back on potato (tiny amounts) and switched from lots a white bread to a little seeded bread. Also lost 19lbs in the process. However…. I can’t help feeling a little disappointed that it wasn’t a lower result. I’ve lost the plot today and eaten all the sausage rolls and chocolate as a reward after the blood test, and now feel a right prat and have a banging headache probably from all the sugar! Anyway, rant over. Just wanted to share 🙂

Well done, that is actually a good achievement and it is better to reduce levels slowly as there is less likely hood of issues with your eyes and nerves. Keep up with what you are doing and I'm sure your next test will be lower. Great weight loss too.

Thanks for the reply, that’s reassuring. I was under the impression that quicker was better so that’s good to hear! After losing the plot today I will be back on it tomorrow. I’m not sure when my next blood test will be as I haven’t heard from the GP, other than a text offering me a free programme on preventing diabetes. It sounds good but all the sessions are during the middle of the working day 🙄

I experienced problems with my eyes when I reduced my carb intake and blood glucose went down quickly, it was only by reading on here about that being the reason. It felt as if my eyes were in different heads as I couldn't focus on close up things. It took several months for it to settle down.
