Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi Everyone

For months I have been really tired, with no energy.

As I have sleep apnoea I blamed this until I started going to the toilet all the time and drinking huge amounts of liquid.

After blood tests I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (at testing my blood sugar level was 28).

I'm a 48 year old female, need to lose weight and start exercising!

I'm hoping to get to know more about diabetes, controlling it, etc and getting to know some of you.

Hi Vixen, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but hopefully now you know, you will begin to start feeling better. Have you been given any medication for your diabetes?

Diabetes is a serious condition, but fortunately with the right knowledge and effort it can be controlled so that it doesn't have to stop you from doing anything - you may even find that the changes you make result in you feeling much healthier. I would recommend having a look in our 'Useful Links' thread for links to some good sources of information. In particular, I would recommend reading Jennifer's Advice and Maggie Davey's letter, and getting hold of a copy of Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker - these will help arm you with the information you need to get you started.

If you have any questions, please let us know! Nothing is considered 'silly', so if it is troubling or confusing you, ask away 🙂

Hi Vixen and welcome to the forum 🙂

Welcome to the forum, Vixen.
As your other thread is concentrating on food, I'll mention exercise / activity and body weight here. You mention sleep apnoea, so you probably know that is associated with high body weight. So, reducing your body weight will improve both your blood glucose levels and your sleep apnoea.
Being more physically active also helps to improve your cells' ability to manage their glucose requirements and insulin resistance. Physical activity doesn't have to mean sport or gym, unless that's what you enjoy. Walking, cycling, energetic gardening etc all count. The key thing is to do lots of what you enjoy. Hobbies such as photography, bird watching, geocaching or orienteering can all add interest to walking or cycling, if you want more incentive.

A warm welcome Vixen, from someone in a very similar boat !

Great you've found the forum so quickly.....full of great support and advice. I'm still a relative newbie and it's been a wonderful tool, for me, in both understanding my T2 status and getting it under control....hopefully you'll find it as equally beneficial...

Still a ways to go....but getting there!
