Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I have now logged on to DiabetesUK 😛and i have noted that there is an extensive amount of information and guidance to help me with my Type 2 condition which is excellent 😉 . have had diabetes for 10 years now so I now hope that being positive(which is my struggle lol) will help reduce my condition as I would like to live until I’m at least a 100ish.

Hi and welcome.

I hope you find the forum as beneficial as I have during the past year. I don't think it is an exaggeration to say it has been a life and sanity saver for me and I have learned so much about taking control of my own diabetes and finding my own path with it from the guidance here.

If you have any particular problems or concerns, please feel free to ask, but you will learn a lot just by sitting down with a cuppa and reading some of the posts from other members. There are some quite inspirational stories from motivated individuals who have pushed their diabetes into remission through dietary changes, weight loss and exercise (usually nothing too physical.... just a brisk daily walk) and managed to come off medication and maintain it. We also have some fantastic experimental cooks and bakers who are happy to share their recipes for tasty low carb meals and treats.

Good old H.G. Wells and Robin Laurence, eh? LOL

Supporting people with diabetes in the UK, yes! - exactly what we all want our own charity to do. It's the only charity representation the majority of adult PWD have - so the more that actually join and thus contribute ££ - the more any of us will be able to profit healthwise.

I'll second this.

Hello @Mick57. , and welcome from me as well.

As you have already seen there is plenty of help and advice available.
It can at times be confusing, but we are all individuals and re-act differently to solutions, and it is important to read around, try different things and find the right solution for you that you can sustain ( until you are 100 !!!!)

Having a positive attitude will be a big asset, and like many of us there will be ups and downs.
There is the Henry Ford quote that I find quite helpful though:
'If you think you will succeed, or you think you will fail, you will be right'

Welcome to the forum @Mick57. glad that you have joined us, and Diabetes Uk.

Lot of advice given already, so I will just encourage you to come back with any questions that you have. There is plenty of help and support available in here.

Welcome to the forum @Mick57.

What a great ambition to live to 100! Are you planning fundraising laps of your garden at that age - I gather that’s very much on trend :D

Ask away with any questions or confusions you have - every day is a learning day with diabetes, and while we’ve both been at it for a while, there are still plenty of new tips and techniques to pick up.

We‘re a friendly bunch and have centuries of lived diabetes experience on the forum, so ask, ponder, question, or just rant at the silliness and frequent irritation of it among people who instinctively ‘get it’ 🙂
