Hi,

My name's MJ and am new to the site but not new to diabetes. I am 24 and have been a type 1 diabetic for 15 years. I struggle with it a lot, control and coping, and am very aware of the fact that I actually don't know anyone else with diabetes to share experiences with! Any words of wisdom would be welcomed! 🙂

Hi MJ, welcome to the group!

Although it's a common condition, there are many people that don't know another diabetic, so this place is great for information and support from such a wide variety of people🙂 I've learned so much here, and there's a great community feel.

Hi MJ, welcome to the forum.
The advice I always give is, to take 1 day at a time. Don't look back. What's done is done.
View your meter as a tool nothing else. it Don't get upset or defeatest if the number is to high/low. Just correct either food/insulin and move on.

Write all your results down and keep a diary for a few weeks food/exercise/work/doing nothing sessions.
This way a pattern will emerge and you and your team can then work out whats going wrong and how to sort it out.
Do you carb count? If not ask your team to be shown how. This will give you a lot better control over your diabetes.
Here's a link to give you a good start.

Hi MJ! I'm new to the site too and been diabetic for 14 years! Not controlled it well over the years at all and now starting a fresh.

I've found the help and support on here in the last few days fantastic and it's great being able to talk over things with people and learn of those who've had the same experiences as you. You realise that you're not alone and that there are people out there in the same boat!

I find it great for asking questions as diabetic nurse isn't always just at the end of the phone for me and there is always someone on here seems willing to help you out!

Welcome from another Newbie 🙂

Thanks 🙂 It feels really good to have found this site. It's nice that there are other people out there who feel similar things. It's all too often such a lonely thing to have!

hi mj

Glad you found us! This site is great for 'meeting' other diabetics, I too don't really know many diabetics 'in real life'. Hope you get a lot out if being a member here.
