Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I am new to this site but was diagnosed with type 2 back in 2003. This year I decided that I had to lose weight and make more use of the Gym rather than just using the Spa Pool. Since January I have now lost 24 lbs. This has resulted in several changes for me.
Prior to this I was having to take 4x 500mg of Metformin 2 in the morning and 2 at night. I also had to take 10 units of Humalog at Breakfast and Lunch and 20 at dinner. I also took 60 units of Levimir before bed.
As a result of the weight loss and the diet (nothing special just reduced the amount I eat rather than what) I have found I no longer need the Humalog at mealtimes. I have also been told that I can start reducing the amount of Levimir that I take.
Hopefully by the time I reach my target weight of 10 stone I will be able to control the Diabetes by diet alone. My sugar levels are at an average now of 5.6 hopefully my next HbA1C test will be lower than the 7.6 it was last time. I have found though that in the mornings when I wake my levels are down to 3.4. Hopefully reducing the Levimir will stop that.
Has anyone else found something similar happening to them.

Hi Patm, welcome to the forum 🙂 Many congratulations on all your achievements! It sounds like you have done really well - long may it continue! It certainly looks like a reduction in levemir is on the cards - I reduce my lantus when I start waking in the 4s so I would certainly take advice on how much to reduce your levemir by, as you may actually be falling lower during the night than your waking level. It might be worth doing some 3 am tests as this is around the time that blood sugar levels tend to be lowest overnight.

Great results and great weight loss - well done! I know we have other members who have achieved good results and managed to reduce or stop their medication altogether, so you are in good company 🙂

Welcome to the forums Pat - and congratulations on your success with the weight loss.

If you have any questions there should be someone around who will be able to answer you, I hope you find the forums a useful place to be.
