Just a quick introduction as I'm new to the forums. Reading through there seems to be lots of info here and I'm sure I'll be along with lots of questions soon.

I was diagnosed type 1 in September 2010, it came as quite a shock. Went to the GP for a blood test in the morning and was told to ring back in 7 days for the results. Got a call from the hospial at 9:30 that night telling me to come in NOW. The next morning I did my first injection 😱

I've been stuggling with swinging BGs for quite a while now, changed from Lantus to Levimir last year which has helped a bit but still not feeling great. Next step is the suggestion of a pump, so looks like it could be a busy year for me D wise.

Hi and welcome to the forum......

Have you had any dose adjustment training?

If not I think you will find it very helpful when considering dose changes to both your Levemir and your meal time injections....

🙂

Have you had any dose adjustment training?

I;ve not done a formal training course like some of the ones I've seen mentioned. However I think I've got a pretty good supprt team. They ae usually on quick to responed to phone or email which is nice.

After a couple of weeks of getting used to the injecting I went back to see them with a food diary and they helped me work out novorapid ratios for each meal and we talked about how to change them if needed. Currently I've got a different ratio for each meal.

I feel fairly confindent adjusting the rapid acting but I.m always a bit mroe reluctant the change the levimir, which I'm sure is part of the problem.

Your suspicions about the Levemir may be correct.

This insulin really is the most important to be honest. If this is wrong then the quick acting doses wont be working at full potential and vice versa, working too much....

I am on a pump and would never discourage you to go for one, but the benefits of a pump will never be seen if you haven't sussed out your own personal basal needs and behaviors......as on the pump this again is the foundation of your insulin regime...

Is there any chance to get on some kind of education course in your area.....?

Would you be willing to try a background test? If so you could start with the overnight dose......

🙂

The hospital are running a pump course in May/June which I am supposed to be goin on. Hopfully that will help even if I don't decide to go with the pump.

I'm trying to get in some more overnight tests but from what I;m reading there isn;t much point if I have to do any corrections/snack before going to bed.

Anyway I did manage to do a few tests last night. Dinner was about 5 so hopfully no novorapid hanging about to confuse things.
10:30pm 9.1
12:00 10:6
3:30 9.2
7:00 am 8.5

All higher than I would like but not as varied as I thought they might be.
