My two year old was diagnosed a year ago and want to find the best possible care for him. Need advice regarding different therepies, and if I'm doing the best thing.

Hi Vicki and welcome.
I am so sorry to hear that you have a young son with this condition. I am not a parent but we have quite a few active members of the forum who do have children with the condition and at least one who has two children with it. I will leave it to them to give you advice but I know that the new technologies available like pumps and Constant Glucose Monitoring devices make it a lot easier to manage now than it ever used to be. I'm not saying that a pump is best in your situation as I don't have experience of them but most adults find them very beneficial.

I will say that this is a wonderful community for information and support and I am sure other parents will be along soon to give you better guidance than I can, but want to wish you lots of luck with finding the best way forward for your son.

I hope @Bronco Billy will forgive me for name dropping and calling his attention to this post but he may be best qualified to give advice on this.
There is also a parenting section on the forum which may be somewhere to post more specific enquiries like this rather than here on the newbie/introduction section.

Hi, I presume you’re currently using multiple daily injections. I’m sure that’s difficult and distressing for you and your child. My daughter is 9 and it’s hard with her let alone explaining to a 2 year old why it needs to happen. There are advantages to a pump but it’s a learning curve to move onto it and isn’t right for everyone. Have your diabetes team talked to you about a pump or a continuous monitor (a Libre). In our area both would be NHS funded for a child of his age. Safety wise finger pricks and injections work and there’s nothing wrong with sticking to them if that’s working for you. The other things can make like easier for some people but you would need advice from your diabetes nurse as to whether they’re suitable for you and if they’re available.

We’re here for info and support whenever you need it.

Hi Vicki, welcome to the forum. I have two children with type 1, so please ask any questions you have. There are many other parents on here as well who will be able to help. What specifically would you like to know. I didn’t answer your poll because, while my two both use and prefer pumps, it’s a case of each to their own. What’s right for one isn’t necessarily right for another. It’s such an individual thing. What would you like to know about each?

rebrascora is right, there is a parents board on the forum which may yield better results for you. Please don’t feel you have posted in the wrong place. As a newbie, this is also the right place, but worth considering the parents board in future.

@Bronco Billy Not sure if you spotted the poll at the top of this thread which indicates that the OP is wanting input on the use of a pump versus pen injectors for a child this young.

@rebrascora I spotted it after I posted and have edited my post to include a mention of it. Well spotted 🙂
