Hello all you newbies
I was only diagnosed in April this year, I fortunately am not having to take medication for this, but I have at the moment got a chest infection and I have been put on antibiotics and steroids, I have also just started to monitor my blood glucose and have noticed that the readings have been going up especially from afternoon time is there anyway of stopping this? Or any tips I should know about when you are ill?
Thank you 😉

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Steroids will always raise your glucose levels, as will infection. If you are on a large dose of steroids, splitting the dose morning and evening will even out the readings to a degree. Whether you need take any other action depends on how high your readings are going. What sort of scores are you getting?

Thank you for your reply I thought I was the only one still daft enough to be up on a school night, at the moment my highest reading is 11.9 but only started taking them last night I have been told to take them for 7days, do I need to watch out for anything? I am taking 6x5mg in the morning

I'm retired, thank goodness! Your levels aren't too high to be worrying for a few days, but it would be better to split the dose 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening. Although I'm type 1, I've often had to take steroids and that dose split certainly helps with better control.

Thank you for taking the time to put my mind at rest, I have so many questions to ask but I am getting too old to remember what until it's too late and doctors don't have time to pamper to you anymore, if you happen to be awake at daft o'clock when I remember something else I would be most grateful for your advice
Thank you again 🙂

Hi . Welcome. Their are a few of us night owls on here. I hopd the chest infection clears up quickly

Hi and welcome. I was awake at 3 this morning-and on a holiday night as well. When you go to doctor, nurse etc, take a notepad, pen and in my case a bag of tissues, and write down ask all the questions you might want answers too. I perhaps was a pain, cause I wrote all the instructions down quickly and if I didn't understand I asked again.(although I did apologise for taking up time) My appointment for diagnosis was weird, as I had to ask pointedly (in a wee voice) "so have I got diabetes?"

Think of all the times that you didn't take up time and this is not a time where asking questions is being pampered. We are encouraged to take control of this condition so you need the tools to do so. You are just a youngster, but there is so much to take on, it's hard not to get muddled-I certainly did. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions here and look for support as well
