Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Well I was diagnosed as type 2 a couple of weeks ago after years of avoiding it. Apparently lockdown has triggered it to surface more as less active than I was before hand.

Not only do I have diabetes but also high blood pressure and cholesterol.
I've already made so many changes to my lifestyle and food but I'm getting to the point of being nervous to eat anything just in case... I was fine when I thought it was just the diabetes as at last I had an answer to why I was feeling so blah but with all 3 it's thrown me a bit. I'm hoping being on here will give me the support I need and also get some handy tricks and tips along the way.
The metformin have been amazing so far. The statins not so much and blood pressure meds give me a headache.but can cope with that.

Hello Brandz78,

I can understand your quandry. It is difficult when you are trying to work out the best treatments for each of the problems individually but I am sure if you choose, initially, to follow a strict diet for your diabetes 2 it can only help the other problems.

I have been keeping a log each day for the past 2 1/2 months stating my blood sugar levels and blood pressure, alongside a daily food chart. In this way I have been able to find out which foods are inclined to give me problems with both blood sugar and blood pressure. I don't intend to put myself under pressure for too log by logging all these items in the future but at the moment I am trying to reverse the blood sugar levels to a point at which I will no longer have to take any pills.

When I joined this forum I was advised to read these items and I am so glad I didas they gave some really good tips on how to cope :

Maggie Davey’s Letter and Gretchen Becker’s book T2 Diabetes, the first year

Good luck with your journey 🙂.

Thank you I'm logging everything probably more bits than needed but I'm sure it will all help. I'll have a look into that book as well.

Hi @Brandz78, I'm glad the metformin is working for you. It doesn't suit everyone but I've been lucky in that it's worked for me without many side effects. My cholesterol came down from 5.5 to 5 when my blood glucose was under control and I'd lost weight. GP still wants me on statins but they make me feel so bad I prefer to take my chances! Hopefully the headaches from your BP meds will stop as your body adjusts to them.

Oh, and welcome aboard. No questions are considered daft here, we are a friendly bunch 🙂

Hi Brandz78, welcome to the forum.

Its natural to be concerned about what you're eating given what you've been through.

Great advice above to keep a log. It can really help to track your blood glucose levels so you can see where you are and course correct if needed.

If there's anything in particular that we can help with, do let us know and well be happy to help.
