Hi Guys.
Ok so here it is, my hubby is type 2 and u der his GP.
We have been doing our own sugar tests at home, as I bought a kit.
I have been getting readings of 13.5 and upwards, but my GP did a blood test and says I am not diabetic ?
I weigh 15 stone and live on cards and sugar.
My finger prick test this morning when I got up was 14.2.
Should I be going back to my GP.
Any info would really help, as am pretty stressed about this.
Thanks.
Hugs Val x

Hi @ValJ56 . Welcome to the forum.
When have you been testing yourself , ie as soon as you wake or before then two hrs after eating etc
Those figure do seem high but it is possible for non diabetics to 10is but the usually come down oretty quickly.

Did your Gp do an Hb1ac blood test.
Are you having any symptoms such as thirst peeing more , tiredness etc.

Those readings imply you could well be diabetic. Yes, did the GP do an HBA1C test? What was the result?

Hi Guyz
Many thanks for taking the time to reply.
The docs did general bloods as I am anaemic, but I don't know what test.
I can't stop drinking and peeing, but I also can't stop eating.
Think I need some more bloods done 😡 I hate it as they can never find anything to get blood from.
I am also getting blurred vision and white lips.

You do seem to have some of the classic symptoms of diabetes so I would ask for a confirmatory test. This is usually the HbA1C but if you are anaemic then that test is not reliable, but there is another test that should be offered.
I would say with those symptom you should get the test done asap.
Meanwhile it might help to reduce your carbohydrate intake so watch portions of starchy foods and cut out any sugary drinks and cakes and biscuits.

I agree @Leadinglights - Anaemia can affect the results of HbA1c (which use red blood cells). Fructosamine is the one I think that is used most often as an alternative?

Sorry to hear about the symptoms you have been experiencing. Sounds like it would be prudent to begin eating as if you had already been given a diabetes diagnosis while you wait for the results to become available. Your body isn’t able to access the energy from the sugary and carby things you are eating, which is why you are feeling so hungry. Reducing carb intake, cutting out the sugary things, and increasing protein and good fats might really help. 🙂

Hi Guys,
Many many thanks for all of your advice and support, I really appreciate it.
