Hi, I got diagnosed with type 2 mid June and I was told to come to this site to educate myself. My diabetic education isn't until Sept so I have been trawling this site, going to links etc and am now a bit confused with diet. I started off with porridge oats for breakfast with blueberries, then 2 slices granary\low GI bread with tuna for lunch then meat & green veg for tea. First week had real upset intestines so cut back on carbs after seeing link on this forum to new thinking diet in Sweden - high protein no carbs but no weight loss at all this week!! I have alot to loose so found this dissappointing as followed 1,200 - 1,500 calories.
Just found myself on PHD Whey product site to loose weight - low carb high protein - but not sure that's the right way either :( - was on (and off) Cambridge diet prior to diagnois.
I'm on 2 tablets of Metformlin.
Just feel a bit confused on what is the ideal way to loose loads of weight & Type 2. Help...can't wait until mid September for help.

Hi Jools, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about the problems you are having trying to lose weight. With diabetes you need to find a sustainable diet, with the aim of getting good control of your blood sugars. Doing this will actually help with weight loss as your body will be producing less insulin than it would when trying to overcome high blood sugar levels.

This will take time to achieve, so do be patient. I would suggest starting a food diary, recording the carbohydrates in everything you eat and drink so that you can get a view of how much you are consuming and where any substitutions for more diabetes-friendly options might be included. Many people with diabetes follow the GL Diet - The GL Diet for Dummies is a good introduction - it is a way of selecting and combining food in order to have a slow, steady release of glucose that will have a gentler effect on your blood glucose levels.

You might also like to join our Weight Loss Group for lots of friendly support and encouragement:

Welcome to the forum Jools2 - you've come to the right place; everyone on here is so warm, welcoming and supportive. I can't really help with the weight loss but there is a weight loss group on the site which is worth trawling through for ideas etc.... 🙂

Welcome to the forum Jools2 🙂

Jools hi and a warm welcome to the forum

greetings

Hi Jouls
Welcome
I will pass on the bits of information which I have found more than useful, you may have most of them but!!!!

Keep and use a diary, set times for meals and try to keep to them.

Close family members are not necessarily as helpful as they should be, my wife?s attitudes is ?its your problem you sort it? this for a person who got up Sunday morning on a glass of orange juice, cup of coffee lunch time (could not be bothered to eat) declared state of hunger about 5.30 then took ? an hour to decide what she wanted to eat.

some foods which are advertised as slow release are not what they seem, Weetabix may suit some people, in my case 2 weetabix and about 1 ? to 2 hours late and I am unable to stay awake!!!! I wish I was kidding
Keep away from refined foods, use raw ingredients and make it up your self. Brown pasta and rice takes longer to cook. Make your own bread its easy, keep some meals made up in the freezer ready to go, I keep bolognaise sauce ? chilli -- and 5 bean hot pot ready to go.
