Guidelines being considered by health officials are warning people never to drink two days in a row.
Public Health England’s (PHE) latest marketing strategy advises drinkers not to booze two days running, as experts aim to shrink the amount of alcohol-related illnesses.
A regional pilot scheme will take place, the strategy document states, focusing on promoting irregular drinking.
But the advice has raised eyebrows with some, while alcohol awareness groups feel they are a step in the right direction.
Jake Odlum, supervisor at the Town Wall pub in Pink Lane, Newcastle, said: “I don’t know too much about the proposals but personally I don’t think many people will stick to them, especially if they are only guidelines.
