Hello all
I had a blood test on Friday and will find out the results on Tuesday. So far I am diet controlled but am worried I may need meds.
Since diagnosed in January I have lost around four stone in weight, but I am not sure how long I can sustain the lack of food and hunger. (Though happy to be wearing smaller clothes🙂 )
I am off on holiday to Spain in two weeks 🙂 and am worried I may lose control (I do like to have a few beers) and we eat out daily so there will be so much temptation. I have written down translations of phrases such as "low carbohydrate" and "low sugar" etc.
I understand that it is up to me to behave myself but I am a bit of a party animal and sometimes throw caution to the wind:D
I know i'ts up to me but felt like writing it down 🙂

Hi Janine, you have done terrifically well to lose so much weight in 6 months well done! I am sure this will stand you in good stead when you get the results of your blood tests, but if you are offered medication then make sure you understand why it is being suggested - some GPs will prescribe earlier than others depending on their assessment of your needs. With diabetes you should never feel like you have failed or could have done more when you have worked so hard, it's just a fact of life that some people need that extra support - sometimes only for a while, sometimes for longer.

I hope you enjoy your holiday! 🙂 Try to keep active and this will help offset those extra holiday treats. You may find that the discipline you have exercised over the past few months will mean that you no longer actually enjoy some of the things you used to - I was very surprised to discover how my tastes had changed in a very short space of time making it actually hard for me to choose less healthy options and also no longer desiring (or enjoying, if I gave into temptation!) things I thought I loved!

Let the break be a reward for all your hard work and a fresh new desire to keep up the new healthier, slimmer you! 🙂

Have to say I've nearly always found on 'hot' holidays, I haven't put a pound on, because even walking down to the beach takes extra effort in the sun, though it's more enjoyable so you don't realise you ARE putting in more effort. And then you chuck yourself in the sea/pool to cool down, lovely - but oh look - you just took some MORE exercise ....... Works wonders for my insulin requirements too so I would expect it to improve (lessen) insulin resistance where that exists.

And brown flab just always looks sooooooooooooo much better (less) than pasty white flab, LOL !!

Sit down lunch in a taverna - 2 beers, I sprite Lite, one big fat salad (dressed with oil & vinegar) and a plate of chips, you always get bread, I'd just have one or two bits of that to mop the reains of the OO and vinegar up ..... most places now offer jacket pots instead of chips for evening meals - the salads are just so much nicer ....

Strawberries, cream - beautiful nectarines, plums ....... need I go on?

Without sugar - sin azucar

It AIN'T a problem believe me!

Awww thanks for your responses Northener and Trophywench I will do my best to heed your good advice🙂

Janin hope Tuesday's result to ok good luck x

Welcome to the forum Janine 🙂

I hope you get a good result too - but don't feel a failure if the result isn't what you wanted.

I've always found that my levels are much better when I'm on holiday - mostly because I sit at a desk all day and I tend to be much more active on holiday. I've never been a sunbathing person - although with an overly active little boy, I start to realize why my parents preferred to lay on the beach :D🙄
