Hi, im starting on the Tanderm t:slim in a couple of weeks and im really worrying now. I think I might have chosen the wrong pump as ive just realised I cant get the compatable cgm on prescription. Someone told me something about using a Dexcom One with an app to make a false set up? Unfortunately due to dissabilities and declining mental health I dont understand tech like I once did. If anyone has any advice or help about this I would really appreciate it. Thank you for reading. Have a good blood sugar day 🙂

As far as i know the tandem tslim works with g6. I get that...its not a prescription, it comes straight from dexcom but it can be funded by nhs - mine is.
I would have though if pumping they should be funding g6. Perhaps pumpers can advise further?

Dexcom g6 comes as a 3 month supply in box every 3 months from dpd and they are great at delivering it to a pick up location if you are not in.
Very good service

I'm in england, may be different elsewhere

Have your clinic said they won't fund compatible cgm?

Is it your first pump @clairalice ? Were you expecting to loop with it? You can use pumps by themselves without looping. I’ve had a pump for almost 20 years and have never looped with one. Don’t get too stressed - basically a pump is just another insulin delivery system. Despite all the descriptions sounding complicated and techy, you can use it pretty simply 🙂

Thank you @Tdm @Inka its my first pump. Im currently using libre 2. I live in England. I would like to try looping eventually but not to start with. Baby steps lol. Prescribing the g6 if doing so with the pump would make sense.

To be honest, I would strongly recommend the baby steps if you have never used a pump before.
I found it almost learning from the beginning again to get the most out of multiple basal profiles, temporary basals, extended bolus, combo bolus, as well as learning to fill it and all the "standard" stuff.
Closed looping sounds great but we all know how tech can fail and, whilst failure is rare, it can happen and never happens at a convenient time.
If your CGM breaks or starts to go awry on closed loop, it will not be great. If you have no idea how to use your pump in manual mode whilst you are are "panicking", the stress will be even greater.

I have been amazed to read concerned pumpers who have completely forgotten (and not written down) their dose when on pens when their pump fails. We owe it to ourselves to know how to manage without all the tech.

The t-slim works perfectly well as a standalone pump, you don’t have to have the sensors. So you can just use it as a basic pump for starters and then move onto looping whenever you are ready.

Then you’ll be fine 🙂 It’s very sensible to get used to using a pump before considering looping. Don’t be put off by all the techy stuff. Pumps aren’t too difficult. After all, it would defeat the purpose if they were too hard to use.

Welcome to the forum @clairalice

I have been using the tSlim for a few years now, and before that I happily used a different pump initially alongside Libre rather than integrated sensors.

The way the hybrid closed loop works on the tSlim, it bases it’s decisions and adjustments on the basal profile and meal/correction factors you have running - so I am very glad I had already learned how to ‘fly manual’ because without that I think Control IQ would have been very frustrating, and possibly quite alarming at times!

Ask your dsn for the G6 funding.
