Hey all , so now I started fasting from 7pm tonight , I still dislike needles but I’m really not looking forward to a 2 hour glucose test and it’s drink . I have my bloods at 8:30am tomorrow to get all bloods done plus the glucose test . Does anyone have any tips for me ????. Is it possible for my hbac1 to change from when I first had it done ??? Because I’m not having anything from now til tomorrow’s appointment is it possible it won’t be as high as I’m also on low carb or it doesn’t work that way ? Would that in anyway affect of how far I’m in the diabetes rang ??? . Sorry my mind is running all over the place at the moment from these doing these bloods .

The test where you have to drink a glucose solution is to see how you metabolise a fixed amount in a 2 hour period so you will have the blood taken after your fasting and then again after 2 hours ( this is a glucose tolerance test and was used for diagnosis before the HbA1C was used as routine). Your fasting will have no influence on the HbA1C as that is a measure of your average over a 3 month period. But if you have been doing low carb then hopefully that will be reflected in a much reduced HbA1C. Good luck for tomorrow.

Thankyou for all that information leadinglights I appericate it , I just drank that glucose and oh my it’s terribly gross , I don’t know how people can drink it , I’m praying my hba1c will show a result of me doing low carb the number will go down .

Hope the checks go well @Jacinta

HbA1c can show differences when taken 3 months apart, but are more often spaced out 6 monthly.

Let us know how things go 🙂

Thankyou for that everydayupsanddowns , ohh I didn’t even know that , Thankyou for that information , so everything went well with the bloods , my second needle of 1 hour hurt but all is well , I’ll defianetly let you know what the results turn out , unfortnately I wasn’t able to get in in next week to see my doctor so I’m going a week after . I’m hoping my hbA1c has gone down since I been on low carb for 7 weeks now but I think I’m hoping to high .

They used to suggest a bottle of lucazade, have they changed their test criteria?
Hello Bruno , I’m not sure where you are but I’m in Australia and from what I been told by the nurse that did my bloods today it’s always been the glucose drink for us , they managed to get it from really think form to , thin and easily to drink within 5 minutes .

Thing with a HbA1c from talking to my consultant is that it only gives a very broad overview, so just for arguements sake, lets asume that your blood sugar readings are always high at night ie 15 + but during the day your readings are always low ie 5 or below, then the HbA1c would give a pretty much perfect reading for your Doctor to see.
