Hey everyone,

Just wondered if anyone here suffers from Gastroparesis (nerve damage in the stomach)..my docs think I have got this now and I had several lots of blood taken yesterday and have a scan this coming week. Looking around on the internet there is alot of medical explanations which I understand and they make sense for my symptoms but if anyone does actually suffer from this could you tell me what the treatment is and does it get better as right now I am struggling with just normal day to day life and it is affecting my ability to be at work.

Anyone help?

Hi kim.

I've added gastroparesis to the thread title so it's more likely to get the replies you want.🙂

We do have a couple of members at least who suffer from this, so hopefully you'll be able to swap notes and get some reassurance soon.🙂

Hi Kim Sorry to hear about the gastroparesis. I was diagnosed with it two years ago so fully understand how you are feeling. The post that Pippin has signposted to you to contains quite a lot of information from me. If I were you I would ask the GP if you can, at a minimum, start taking domperidone whilst you are waiting for everything to be sorted out. But don't have it for the 24 hours prior to your scan. If you have any questions please post them and I will do my best to answer.

Thank you 🙂 I will have a read of that post.

I have looked at the medications listed and I am a bit anxious if they want me to have Erythromycin as it is an antiobiotic and because I literally have the minimum immunity I would want it and several of them have side effects of nausea and vomiting so seem pointless to even have if thats how I feel anyway. Docs wouldn't let me have anything until the blood results and scan results are back :( mainly due to my age they said and then the scan is best if I am unwell.

Hi Kim I assume that blood tests are to check that it is not anything Else? if you are having the gastric emptying scan be aware that it can bee very boring - for mine I had to sit there for two hours. I wish that they had advised me to take a book to stop me being bored. Although everyone is different I have no side effects with the domperidone. I couldn't get on with metro loperamide because it made me very sleepy. But I know that there are some people who have not had any problems with it. I hope that they find a solution which is good for you.

Yeh, they are doing a liver check, kidney check, amylase check, general profile, hba1c. I am just having an ultrasound this week and then I spose depending on results whichever further investigations. But they reckon it is mostly gastroparesis due to my symptoms and I screamed when they pushed all around my tummy in the middle. I just want a diagnosis to see whats happening as fed up now and even though my boss is very understanding of my diabetes this problem could cause me to be sacked as I am able to work a full week yet without at least 1 day off due to vomiting or bedbound due to the nausea.

Have you explained to the doctor that your job is at risk? I had a bad bout of nausea the other week - don't know if it was because of the gastroparesis or something else - but the doctor gave me a different anti sickness tablet which I took as needed whilst we waited for the blood test results. This meant that I could go back to work. You don't want to risk losing your job for something that can be treated whilst they are doing tests.

Yeh I was at the doctors an hour yesterday as they wanted to know everything. I have anti-sickness tablets now and they gave me the anti-sickness injection yesterday which has done a little help. I deffo don't want to lose my job but with a diagnosis I have more proof for my boss.

Sorry, have only just seen this thread.

I have recently been told that I have gastroparesis (a few weeks ago) although I haven't had a scan to confirm it as yet. I have had bloods done and an endoscopy. Due to the nausea I was started on domperidone 3 times per day but didn't tolerate that dosage very well so have now been advised to take it on an as needed basis.

I won't be able to help you much as I don't really understand it myself tbh but thought it might help to know that I am going through the same thing myself. I had to have a day off work recently due to the nausea and although my boss is understanding too, they don't really have a clue what we are going through.

I hope the medication you have been given helps you to get your life back to near normality while you are being tested.

Oh thank you 🙂 Today has been an ok day and my blood results came back negative so just gotta see if anything shows up on the scan this week. It is hard to explain to others what it is like I agree. My husband is very sympathetic but he is getting a bit 'oh something else wrong with you?' my reply is 'I know I am broken but least it gets fixed each time I have a something go lol'
