Advice please- just noticed that on H,s prescription they have changed his needles from BD microfine ultra pen needles penta point 4mm TO microdot droplet hyperdermic insulin needles for prefilled reusable pen injectors 4mm Cambridge sensors ltd
what is the difference -the docs are calling me back

I haven't been switched personally, but I know several people on here have reported that they've been changed to other brands, either because they're cheaper, or because their health trust has done a bulk deal. I think if the new ones are inferior, hold out for a return to the BD ones, if they are the ones that suit H.

My surgery recently changed my needles from Novo-fine to Omnican without any notification. I wrote to the practice manager and told her that I had tried them for a few days and did not get on well with them and felt they were dangerous because they did not have an inner safety cap. They changed them back straight away with no problem. It's just a money saving exercise.

John.

Thanks all- changed back-with no fuss

Yes, money saving exercise. From the NICE 2015 guidelines for Type 1 diabetes in adults:

https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng17

1.8.4 After taking clinical factors into account, choose needles with the lowest acquisition cost to use with pre‑filled and reusable insulin pen injectors. [new 2015]
