Hi all,

I was on 8mm or 6mm for ages, probably a few years then around last September my dsn changed them with my agreement to 4mm, which i love and also as my dsn said no need to pinch up, great. What i would like help / advice on is whether i'm doing the right thing in leaving the needle in while i count to about 10 seconds just to make sure all the insulin has gone in, which it does seem to.

Well, it's not insulin I'm jabbing myself with but that's what they told me too. 10 hippopotamuses.

I've only in the last year been given 6mm needles - before then I was on 8mm. I may have to look into 4mm needles!

Waste of time looking into 4mm needles, you cant see anything, the hole is to small :D

imtrying, Like you I dropped from 8mm needles to 6mm, sometimes they dont look any different to me 🙂

I remember once being given 12mm syringes back in the day by some careless pharamcist! Not nice!😱

I've just been changed from 8mm to 6mm but they're making me bruise!!

Hi Catherine

I'm surprised the 6mm needles are making you bruise, I had that problem with 8mm thats why I changed, now I dont even pinch up the skin when I inject.

John.

I was on those until 2008 for my Lantus, and then they changed me to the Lantus Solostar pens, and just before I went on my pump they started giving me 4mm needles. I loved them! 🙂 Much nicer than the horrible syringes - the needles were so long the muscle in my leg would hold them in and there would be suction when I tried to take them out, and I always had massive bruises!

I find them more stingy too. It's amazing how it affects everyone so differently!

To avoid wasting a supply of "longer than you want needles", remember that you don't have to push needle right in to the plastic hilt!

ooooh no I couldn't do that. I hate needles so have to stab it in quick enough that I don't actually see the needle go in. Otherwise I think I'd feel sick. Only 4mm needles for me. Wonder if they'll ever get any shorter. 😛

I'm using both 4 and 5 mm needles.

4mm for the novorapid in the stomach area and 5mm for the lantus in the bum.

Probably psychological but as I cannot see the injection in the bum I just feel more confident I've injected with the 5mm as you can feel it.
