Needle issue - sorted!

I have spent this morning sorting this out

Large needles 12.7 mm as long the the dial returned to zero I would get all the insulin.

12.7 mm needles USED to be issued to fat people, but now they recommend
8 mm, in accordance with the Novorapid reqirement, as stated on the box.

So, GP issuing a new prescription, pharmacy will take back the 12.7 mm and give me the replacement 8 mm.

Apparently, according to my DSN, at my local hospital, whether you are 8 stone, 18 stone, or 28 stone the skin is the same size - as long as the needle pierces the skin, and the insulin discharged, everything is OK.

So, panic over. Not wholly convinced - but sorted.

Pleased its all sorted out, You have met me and know im not the smallest person and i was originally on 6mm but when moved to 8mm I have had no bother,At least your DSN has answered one of my quesions about needles and someones weight.Out of curiosity what is the biggest size needle that you can get anyone know?

Glad to hear it is sorted and thanks for educating us Hazel 🙂 Steff, I've only ever heard of 12.7mm as being the longest, unless you go back to the old harpoon days that some of our members endured! 😱
