Iv started doing more exersise in a bid to get fitter and am finding I'm needing hardly any insulin on average only 5-6 units of novo rapid a day this is much less that I was needing before! I am now battling the hypos as its taking some getting used to, is this a normal response?

Cheers

Nicola

Hi Nicola, sound a bit like me. When I am running regularly my insulin requirements come right down. When diagnosed I was on about 40 units novorapid a day and 20 lantus. I have been as low as 12 units of novorapid and no lantus!

Exercise will make you more sensitive to insulin, especially if it is regular exercise. I always have a bit of a problem if I've been lazy for a while, then my requirements go up, then I decide to be more active and it's difficult to estimate how much to reduce by so I end up having quite a few hypos until I get the dosage right again 🙂

Good to know this is normal at the minute I'm eating some small meals and not needing any insulin as my blood sugars seem to be around the four mark and I'm wanting to loose around ten pounds so dot want hypos as don't eat to take in the sugar to treat them it's a tricky balancing act but I suppose that's what diabetes is about 🙂
