At risk of diabetes
Hi
So I am waiting for the doctor to call following a recent test that shows I’ve moved into a diabetic state.
For the last 3 days I have already modified my diet looking at 120g carbs and more protein and will avoid alcohol except for maybe Sunday lunch ?

Early days but today I’ve gone test crazy and am worried
on waking 10.9
12pm 9.8

Had some chicken only for lunch maybe 3 slices and a pint of water

Just tested now and 9.9

Should I be worried or just remain patient ?

I would be patient, it is not a quick fix you are after but some sustained dietary changes which will be for the long term.
Rather than random tests a strategic regime will be more useful. To find the effect of your meal then testing before you eat and after 2 hours will tell you the meal is tolerated if the increase is no more than 2-3mmol/l.
You can also test first thing in the morning (in bed) to get a fasting reading to keep track on progress day to day, week to week, etc. Also test if you feel unwell.
120g per day is a good starting point but it is better to reduce blood glucose slowly to avoid issues with your eyes and nerves.
Chicken is good but having something with it salad or coleslaw would bulk it out.
Keeping a food diary of your meals and your before and after reading will help you see what food are good and what not so good.

3 days is too short a time span for any dietary changes to be reflected in your BG. You would need several days readings, following the regime that @Leadinglights has outlined. I had almost 2 weeks of double-digit readings after diagnosis, even though I was restricting my carbs, before I dropped into single figures.

I can’t really add much to the excellent advice from @Leadinglights and @Martin.A other than to agree with everything they have said. I reduced my carbs and was taking medication but it still took several weeks to get into single figures with my BG.

I stopped taking a morning reading altogether as that reading had more ups and downs than a rollercoaster and was starting to annoy me

Keep doing what you’re doing, have patience, give it time and you will see results. You will also feel so much better in yourself, which feels amazing.

Good luck.
