Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi

I am 61 years of age and have surprisingly just been diagnosed with Type 2 and given medication to take for 2 months and then come back and have a blood test and go from there!
Am trying to find a definitive list of what should eat and avoid eating?
Also does anyone else have Type 2 and Lymphoedema(in their lower limbs) as not sure how this will be affected?
 
I found the easiest way is to cut the Sugars and Starches and eat everything else. I replaced some of the lost carb calories with a bit more healthy fats.
I would get a blood glucose meter and test before and after meals to see if any foods are increasing the blood glucose.

re Lymphoedema, I guess it would depend of the cause, I had edema that resolved with a change of diet and good BG, so I can't say which one worked best.

Welcome to the forum, Jill.
There are no specific foods to avoid, but you need to be aware how foods with various levels of carbohydrate (not just sugar) affect your blood glucose levels. Medication and diet are part of managing diabetes, but exercise / physical activity is also vital, plus reducing body weight IF you are overweight. I realise that lymphodema often means you are carrying extra weight in the form of fluid, but it's body fat that matters. I also realise that lymphodema can affect which types of exercise are possible, but there is always something that works, so do outline issues and ask if you need suggestions.
