Type 2
Hi I am new to this site and I have type 2 diebeats and I need help with meals any advice on food I can eat

Unfortunately none of us can tell you what won't effect your BG so testing is the only way to be fairly certain on things you can tolerate as the individual you are as we all tolerate different amounts of carbohydrates and even different types

Lower carb foods would have less of an impact

What do you generally eat and we could see where we may make suggestions of swapping etc
xx

For most type twos control comes from a diet based on meat, fish, eggs, cheese, full fat yoghurt - coffee with cream almost gets its own food group.
I have two meals a day - all I need.
My first meal can be leftovers from the previous day - chicken thighs with salad, eggs and bacon with a sort of bubble and squeak made from mashed swede and chopped green beans or other low carb vege, or whatever I find in the fridge. On cold mornings I might do a casserole chopped cooked meat and some frozen mixed veges simmered for half an hour. When it is already hot when I get up, tuna or salmon with salad.
Low carb cooking is really simple once you get into it. I have been complemented on the way I do cauliflower cheese, and it is cauliflower, and cheese - ? I warm a heavy dish in the oven whilst steaming some cauliflower florets, When almost done I put the cauliflower in the dish in a heap, then cover with cream cheese, then a pinch of herb or spice - go lightly as it is covered and can't diffuse away. Heap on grated cheese - I like Red Leicester - then replace in the warm oven and wait until the cheese is just melting and has a very light tan.

Hi @Juststephen23 and welcome to the forum.
The best way to find out which are the right foods for you is to test your Blood Glucose before and then 2hrs after 1st bite for meals you are unsure about.
If you are in the UK you will likely be advised not to test. - This is because the NHS doesn't want to pay for BG meters and test strips for all the T2s.
Two good meters (cheaper strips at around £8 per pot of 50) are the:
SD Gluco Navii
or the Spirit Healthcare TEE2 ( which is the one I use).
If the reading 2hrs after first bite of a meal is more then 2.0 mmol that the one taken before the meal then if contained either too many carbohydrates, or carbs that your body reacts too strongly to. All Carbs (even whole grains and the natural sugars in fruits) affect Blood Glucose, but Proteins have less effect and Fats have no effect on BG at all.

I think you can ignore the part about not frying food - there is nothing wrong with the ability to deal with fats for a normal type 2.
I fry all sorts and enjoy eating them - with no ill effects I have found.
