Hi have not been here for some time,,but I am having problems and need help..I have put on wight since last September due to my father passing away and my eating habits are all the place.. I am type 2 and on medication. I am trying to eat healthy and get back on track but sugar levels up and down like a yo-yo. have got to see my Dr next week ......help!!!!!!:confused:

Hi Gilly, sorry to hear you are still struggling :( What sort of things are you eating? Perhaps if you gave us an idea of your daily meals we could make some suggestions that might help you improve things?

Don't worry about seeing your doctor, we all have our ups and downs, and you have had some very serious things to deal with lately. Your doctor is there to help you get on track so let him know exactly how things have been for you.

thanks for your message ..it is nice to know there is someone out there.....meals today porridge black coffee breakfast....salmon salad sandwich and fruit salad but think I had to much and as levels were high and for dinner chicken...dry roast potatoes and loads of veg..yogurt,,,my levels today were first thing 5.4....2pm 9.6.....6pm 4.3 will do again later. Since last September I have put on a stone as I have been comfort eating and eating the wrong things. strange levels were not to bad range between 5 and 8 ....but since I have been trying to eat healthy they are up and down ....any idea's

Hi Gilly, welcome. Have you browsed through the Weight Loss group yet? Plenty of ideas there, and lots of help and support for when you're struggling. Some of those who post there are well on the road to a healthier weight, others are just beginning the journey. For me, it has been and will be a lifelong effort. Ho hum, I'll shut up now!

I think you need some balance. Try not to eat too many carbs in one meal but spread it equally. Stress doesnt help when it comes to eating habits. I struggle sometimes as well with comfort eating and my sugar goes crazy then. Maybe you should focus more on stress issues and get a help here. I did it and it helped me a lot! Good luck

Gilly, those levels don't look too bad at all. Are you able to get much exercise? That can really help, both with your blood sugar levels (it really helps to keep them more stable) and also your moods generally. Are there any places nearby that you could enjoy a good long walk?

Remind me what medication you are taking? The food you are eating sounds good, but you need to see what you can tolerate well by using your meter i.e. if your levels are going too high a couple of hours after eating, try to think of ways of reducing the carbs for the meal 🙂

thanks for the support...I will look at the weight loss group and see what ideas they have,,,,,I do get very stressed so perhaps I need to have a good chat with my Dr,,,the last 18 months have not been good first I lost my brother suddenly which I still cannot accept and then my dad passed....I find it hard and I feel no one understands,,,I always put on a brave face but inside I am not good...

Gilly, make that appointment, you have been through some very hard times and you are also having to deal with your diabetes. Hopefully your doctor will be able to help and perhaps let you know of some local groups who you can share your experiences with 🙂

We will always be here for you.

Gilly, you are not alone - here's a virtual (((hug))). Try having a read of the recent PROGRESS thread in weight loss (there's quite a bit, but start at the beginning). Taking control of just one thing at a time can be a big help. The hardest step is the first, and now you've got support with that one.

thanks to you all for your advised and support.....I will let you know how things progress, Good night🙂

Hi Gilly. I can't add much to the great advice you have already been given but i would echo the points about not overloading on starchy carbs at a sitting. It must have been really difficult for you coping with your losses and i would expect that may be affecting your stress levels. I lost my wife a few years ago and my subsequent stress, comfort eating, self neglect and weight gain is possibly what triggered my T2. You have to take care of yourself and in here we can all support each other. Big hug {{{}}}
