Advice please
Hubby diagnosed in Feb put on Metformin and has worked really hard to stick to diet
He had no side effects for meds but the last 2weeks he has had stomach problems intermittently
His last Ha1bc result was 35 and has come down from 55 . Should he still be taking Metformin

I would have a chat with his doctor Chris1 Maybe take every other day till you speak with the doc. Although I am no doctor so just do what you think is appropriate if he is having stomach problems. Does it say anything in the leaflet that comes with the med about what to do?

Not sure but will look now Thank you didn’t think of that

As the problem is slow in starting up it might subside with the slow release type of Metformin.
If your husband is happy eating low carb then that often proves to be all that is needed, though doctors do seem to give all the credit to the tablets.

Thanks Martin we have made an appointment to speak with nurse
Thanks for your advice

Thanks Drummer he has worked really hard I wonder if now his Blood results are much lower can that be maintained just on diet now

With an Hb1ac of 35 which is well into the non diabetic range , I think it’s very likely that your husband can come off them . The good thing about Metformin is that it can be stopped straight away and those unfortunate digestive disturbances 😉 should stop very quickly. If nurse/Gp is not keen for him to stop them, why not ask for a three month trial without them.
