An average of 10 people a day in central and western Berkshire are admitted to hospital due to obesity.
There were 3,752 admissions with a primary or secondary diagnosis of obesity in 2013/14, according to the latest figures from the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC). The figure includes people from Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham and West Berkshire.
The highest number of admissions was in Reading, 1,162 people were admitted of which 779 were women. The lowest number was in Bracknell 812 people were admitted.
Across the area 60 people had bariatric surgery in 2013/14. In the same year Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust saw its spending on bariatric equipment jump from £58,120 in 2012/13 to £109,788.
