Type 2
Hi all I am type 2 well controlled on Metformin and Linaglyptin For past 12 weeks I have had pain in my right side back and rib area. Spasms happen when I move in certain ways they vary in pain level but on worst occasions I grunt with pain like being stuck with something sharp and the pain travels through to my abdomen to right of my belly button.
When I lay on my back on the floor my right back rib area is very sore. and if when moving about the house I accidently jar my self the pain is often enough to make me yell! but other times no pain!
I have recently had MRI scan and a ribs xray both negative.
I can sleep well at night after the original pain in my right side quickly subsides. Also I still manage to referee men's football at a good level. When I run after the first three or so painful paces the pain is nearly gone and I complete 90 minutes comparatively pain free but after games the spasms and soreness in my right middle back and side returns
I am now waiting for an ultrasound scan which my GP has reluctantly agreed to as she feels the problem is muscular.Several years ago i had the same experience caused when I sat forward out of a chair and Xrays and tests showed nothing and I eventually was back to normal but this time seems much more prolonged with no improvement so far.
I
would like opinions on this. Could it be my Type 2? causing this? I'm taking Naproxen at times but am reluctant to rely on painkillers- I want this ended!!
Has anyone experiences like this or advice.
Thanks
Ray

Hello @raypev

Welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear about the problems you’ve been having.

The only time I’ve had a similar sort of shooting pain it was diagnosed as a trapped nerve (I didn’t have spasms).

There are nerve issues that can be connected to living with diabetes, but these seem to be more generalised pain (neuropathy) or loss of feeling and sensation.

I hope the investigations you are having done come up with the solution for you

Hi Ray. Wow you have just described what I'm going through at the moment. My T2 isn't under control yet but I was given Linaglyptin by my Dr. I have the exact same symptoms . I had to come off Metformin, and get the Linaglyptin. I started to put 2 and 2 together as I got the horrible symptoms you have. Mine is worse when I lay down in bed. The pain is so bad I cry sometimes, I was convinced it was something more sinister. I am disabled and don't go out of the house very much and also have heart failure , which is under control. But this is something else. Please keep in touch as I'm very interested in what the Dr has to say. Thankyou. Tara,

Hell9 @Tara33 . Welcome to the forum. The Original poster has not been here for a few months so they may not reply to you.

Your symptoms sound really horrible. I have had a quick look at the patient info for Linaglyptin online and in The possible side effects it mentions such pain as yours, I suggest you contact your Gp or the or person who prescribed it as soon as possible.

Here is a link to the patient info leaflet .
Possible side effects is section 4

Thankyou Ljc for that. I will have a look. I was getting to know a little bit about T2 , then had a heartbeat of 217 one day. Diagnosed with Heart failure so been concentrating on that firstly. Now ready to tackle this. Been on Metformin for about 2yrs but the taste OMG. Anyway they weren't working for me. So Dr gave me the Linaglyptin. I will get in touch with him asap. Also got the dreaded Restless leg syndrome. One thing after another.

Hope you manage to get some answers soon @Tara33

Thankyou Mike. Had Dr out . Apparently because I have a bad cough ive done something to my top rib, muscle wise. Still very painful. See how it goes, and the usual take paracetamol advice.

Symptoms were getting a lot better. Then bang, its back again. Told my Dr and going for xray on Saturday. He said worse scenario was Cancer, then Pneumonia, and blood clot. But on blood thinners so he thinks its not that. Hopefully find out something next week if results are back. Thanks everyone for replying to me .
