Having read Sianee's post about the PASTIE course, I wondered what other convoluted and silly acronyms people have encountered for couses they have attended. I know of BERTIE and DAFNE, of course, and I think Tom went on SADIE (so to speak!). Any others? 🙂

if im not mistaken i think lucy attends a one called JUGGLE

I did SNACCS - Specialised kNowledge About Carbohydrate Counting for Self management

When they first asked me if I wanted to attend "the snacks group" I had visions of us sitting there munching crisps and kitkats.

Not an education course, but a diabetes research study - ADDITION Anglo-Danish-Dutch Study of Intensive Treatment in People With Screen Detected Diabetes in Primary Care (it's almost as if they chose England / Anglo, rather than British, then looked for 2 other countries that can begin with D and forgot about half the words in the title!)

see http://www.mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk/Research/Studies/ADDITION/index.html

I'm currently attending an X-PERT course - damned if I know what it stands for though!!

Karina

DESMOND - stangely their website doesn't explain the acronym and I have forgotten what it stands for.
DEREK - Diabetes Education Revision in East Kent, hey these guys know a snappy name when they see one huh 🙂

I completed the "NEW DEAL" course

New Diabetes Education and Adjustment for Living"

How muich better could it be? :D

(Is there a prize for the best acronym?"

Wasn't New Deal the back-to-work programme Tony Blair introduced? Confusing...

These are excellent guys, thank you 🙂 I'm thinking of possibly writing a poem about them :D

I've been invited to attend a course called T1DE, which stands for Type 1 diabetes education. Not sure if i shall go though.

You should go if you can - irrespective of the course content, meeting fellow Ds is always a good experience! 🙂

Oh this is such a funny thread Northener! 🙂 Brilliant!

I must confess, I was irritated to not know what the DESMOND stood for- I know I had readit somewhere but couldnt remember.

Anyway, turns out I didnt know it at all and found it on the world-wide-interhole-

Diabetes
Education and
Self
Management for
On-going and
Newly diagnosed
Diabetics!

Phew! Someone must have had a sleepless night coming up with that one!!!!

Ketones And Their Effects
Bolus Unless Severely Hypo.:D

I cant remember what the course was called though.....:DBev
