Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hello. Diagnosed with T2 in January after routine blood test. I had complained of losing feeling in my feet 5 years ago but nobody suggested D. One of my favourite things in life is beer which is a bit sad. Ah well. I sometimes have a a dull pain under my r heel. Hopefully with now tackling blood sugar by not eating carbs or drinking beer, I can pull back. Cheers

Welcome to the forum @Yendor

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, and that it may have gone undetected for several years.

Were you given an HbA1c result as part of your diagnosis? This is from blood drawn from your arm which acts as a sort of average of blood glucose over the last 120 days. A result above 42 puts you at risk of diabetes, and a result above 48 gives a diagnosis with diabetes. Knowing what your HbA1c is can help you understand how much work you have on your hands.

Have you been given any medication for your diabetes to start with?

Good morning and thanks for your concern. Info. I wasn’t sure how to attach it. I take 5mg Bisoprolol and 20mg Rivaroxaban daily for AF.
my HbA1c was over 70 ! Due to eating lots of spuds and some beer. That was early January. I’m stepping up Metformin 500mg. Now on 3 a day. I am on low carb diet but I need to do testing to see if there’s any progress. I’m 190cm tall and 90kg. I lost 1kg in 4 weeks. Getting daily walks and bike rides. The paths of glory etc.

I don’t know if here is the place. I haven’t had bread spuds pasta rice or beer for over a month. I’ve always been a fan of Indian food and have found besan ( gram flour, chick pea flour) very useful. Make a batter with it and shallow fry like a pancake. It’s a good substitute for bread. Or make onion bhajis or pakoras. I’m not too sure of the carb content.
