Hi Everyone

I am a newbie to the site but diagnosed with type 1 15 years ago. I have been quite happily using an aviva expert and libra 2 for managing my diabetes which were fab. My diabetic nurse (also fab!) has given me an accuchek instant which needs the mysugr app todo bolus calculations for current meals and corrective doses both of which were done on the aviva expert. meter without an app.

I have found the instant to be pretty difficult to use physically and I normally end up needing to turn the meter off and on to get the result into mysugr. When using the mysugr app it just feels really childish (my monster) and clunky to use. I am also duplicating entries between lib review and mysugr because they don't talk to each other but that is just a moan.

The real problem I have is with bolus calculator. The settings have been replicated from my expert into mysugr by my nurse who is pushing me away from the expert due to it being discontinued, but they are giving wildly different figures especially with the corrective dose function which is pretty useless. Anybody else having this issue?

I really think Roche have lost their way with this system. I really want the basics like a bolus calculator to be on a meter rather than an app. Anybody got any suggestions?

I do have to say the manufacture responses have been poor

Sorry to hear you are having frustrations with your new tech @coadypaul

I used mysugr for years and years to manually log my BG results. Can you not use a non-linked meter and simply add your BG level in manually?

I knew the guys at mysugr at the beginning when they were just a cheeky Austrian startup with lots of T1s on the team - I was even a voluntary beta-tester for a while. Just to reassure you that the guys who built mysugr do ‘get it’, and I would imagine the bolus calculator will be very workable once you can get your BG numbers into the app.

Abbott changed Libre’s data sharing, so it’s not possible to import Libre readings into mysugr as it once was.

Alternatively… Is the abbott Insulinx still being made? Or is the bolus adviser still in the Libre Reader Meter if you use BG strips?

Hope you find a way to get the tech to work for you - so frustrating when a tried, tested and liked selection gets made obsolete :(

looks like abbot are going the same way - everything on an app

Thankyou for you kind words of support.

I think frustration is the word here. I log my carbs and insulin on libre review and while mysugr has better logging the libre system is good enough for me. My frustration is the bg calculator which frankly I have abandoned and gone back to manual calculations. I just find it pretty stupid that Roche have moved the calculator off the meter. If I was at lunch with my expert I could discreetly open the pouch, do a test, inject and smile in seconds where now I have to get a metre out, put it on the table, test, wait for bluetooth to kick in (normally need to turn the meter off and on), open my phone, open an app, plumb in carbs into the calculator, bypass a load of questions about previous insulin and the hopefully inject. Completely bonkers! I was hyper a couple of nights ago (intentionally) with sugars of 20, when I asked for a corrective dose, mysugr said none required.

So frustrating!

If the manufacturers do listen, not everything needs to go on an app for a smart phone - KEEP IT SIMPLE (and I work in IT).

there’s the mylife app you can try
