Myocardial Perfusion Scan

Anyone had one of these?

It involves fasting from the night before and spending two seperate days at the hospital. Being injected with radioactive tracer. 😱 Sounds about as much fun as a nuclear winter. Wonder if I will glow in the dark afterwards? :(

Not me, but hopefully someone who has can give you an idea of what to expect. Hope it all goes well - do you have long to wait for it?

Don't hold me to this, but I think it may be something to do with your heart. When is it being done? Perhaps your doctor could explain it to you or the hospital might be able to help.

I hope it goes well for you.

Hi, it is where a radioactive substance is injected into your blood to assess the flow in and around your heart muscles. HTH

I agreed to it, as you do, when I saw the consultant but after reading up about it and finding out what a long drawn out proceedure it seems to be I don't really fancy it. The idea of injecting radioactive substances doesn't really do it for me. :(

I wanted someone to say they had it and it was nearly as good as sex 😉

Perhaps knowing it's your health and you're worth it might help?

I have had a thallium scan once, don't think they are the same though, not that I checked. I didn't glow neon either lol

I had something similar to this only involved one day at hospital tho went in early , and a man come round in a suit with a metal suitcase that had radioactive stuff in ( he looked like he was from sci - fi film lol ) then i had stuff injected had scan went away for a couple of hours went back had another scan waited round then was told i could go home 🙂 But to keep away from pregnant women and that my urine could be very yellow .

😱

So apart from being a walking radiation hazard and your wee turning bright yellow there's nothing to worry about LOL

My procedure was painless . Good luck and let us know how you get on 🙂

Well I had this done earlier today (or yesterday) and it was relitively painless apart from usual saga of getting into a vein which I should be used to by now.

No yellow wee so far. I felt okay afterwards but have felt a bit fluey this evening with a dry mouth and throat. I'm going back for part 2 on Friday.

Radioactive Rob 😱

Hi Rob pleased it went relitively ok x good luck with the final part tomorrow x

I hope the final part goes well and you feel better. There are a number of viruses doing the rounds too, so it may be that making you feel fluey, but if you are uncertain do mention it.

I've had it done and it was no big deal. Its routine now in the Nuclear Medicine Depts of big hospitals.Slurp the gubbins, wait a some time, then lie down in scanner thingy and dose off. Measures heart efficiency, cvd and blood supply around the body. The result of mine was that I had to have an ASD ( hole-in-the-heart) filled that I had since birth. And that was also a doddle, in through the groin,up the main artery and all done in 40 minutes.
