Hi, has anyone else used the MyFitnessPal app for tracking food and exercise? I've just tried it and it looks good but I'm sure that there be much more that I can do with it to maximise its benefits. Any thoughts/suggestions really appreciated please.
MyFitnessPal has been my weapon of choice for my food diary since diagnosis. I still keep it up to date, daily, which might seem a bit OTT, but once you have your usual foods in there, it takes moments to update, and it really help if I want to track back, should I either see a trend in my bloods, or if I feel odd/off, for some reason.
I have never used it to track activity, as initially, my focus was 100% of reducing my blood scores, but others I know who also use it. feel it overestimates the calories used in exercise, so I would think the "bonus" calories you have added for exercise could be treated with a pinch of salt.
As I say, at diagnosis, I purely focused on my bloods, then once I had control (testing + diary gave a clear picture pretty swiftly!) I found the carb trimming was extremely successful for weight loss, and indeed I remain astonished at my calorie intake to maintain my ginagerous 47kg frame. Currently, I trough my way through between 2300-2500 calories a day and only gain weight if I have a carb-fest. If I keep the carbs trimmed back and the protein fats enough to fill me up, I just don't seem to gain. Clearly, I don't have the insulin puzzle to juggle, but I have never found getting and staying very trim so easy.
Good luck with it all. I hope you see great rewards for your efforts.
