Hi everyone. My name is Alison and my 7 year old daughter has just last week been diagnosed with Diabetes type 1 and coeliacs. She's an absolute superstar and I just wanted to tell eveyone how proud I am of her! I have to say I am struggling a bit with it all and look forward to getting advice and support from you all out there 🙂

Hi Alison, welcome to the forum 🙂 I'm sorry to hear of your daughter's diagnosis, but it's great that she seems to be handling things so well! There is a very active Parents section here, so please jump in with any questions you may have - you are, of course, free to post in any section!

Here are some links to things you might find useful:

If you can, get hold of a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young Adults by Ragnar Hanas. It will explain everything you need to know about living with Type 1. Well, maybe not everything, but for those things it doesn't, you have us! 🙂

There is an excellent website for the parents of diabetic children, which is run by some of our members. It doesn't have a forum, but does have an email list, so you may wish to use that alongside this forum 🙂

Good luck, I look forward to hearing more from you!

Hi, welcome to the forum!

My 7 year daughter was recently diagnosed type 1 as well and I've found this forum amazing, I've not asked many questions as I can usually find what I want to know by reading previous posts. There is a wealth of information on here!

Happy reading!

Hi Alison

Welcome to the forum...it has provided me with support and advice over the last few months.

It's all a bit new and strange at first and I certainly struggled like you.

Well done for joining and it's great to be able to support each other.

Take care

My little girl who will be 1 on tuesday has just been diagnosed with type 1. Lovely. It must be stressful for you too - a slightly different set of stresses maybe because they are different ages. Thought I would reply as my dad is a coeliac so I have to say having grown up with it that it's something you get used to. One thing we always did (and still do!) is label pots of marge or jams etc with a big P in marker pen. Meaning polluted, with bread crumbs!! Apparently we said that when we were little and it stuck. There are so many more foods out now for coeliacs, like pasta etc. We tend to all eat the stuff if we are eating together, it tastes fine. It must be different for you with a little girl with it. But ask away if you want any (handy?) hints.

Hi there! I too have had my 13yr old daughter recently diagnosed with Type 1 and I am finding this forum invaluable.
Welcome!
