Hi all

My previous post see below then my comment after it.

my worst fears came true when i had a postive test result for covid on the 13th October i cannot tell you how ill i have been i cannot remember much about the first two weeks, but im still not right and currently off work i work in ambulance control and not been out anywhere else so guess i caught it from there, i have had a tempreture of 39 rashes and i could not walk or get out of bed thankfully i did not need to go to hospital, i am concerned if there are any long term problems and i am still a bit weak but i am getting a bit better and my appetite is coming back, i have been really worried being type 2 diabetic but i am hopeful, i was due a eye test before corona and since having corona seems when i look at the tv seems a bit blurry with glasses on ok for reading but there not for tv so when better will have to make a eye test appointment whether it is covid related i dont know as i say i was due a eye test anyway. i am hopefully going back to work next week been off nearly five weeks now i am just hopeing im ok i hear people are dying 28 days after a positive test i am not up to 28 days yet but i have got to try and stop worrying as that wont help me will it, i am trying my best to get there and i am greatful for everyday thanks

My Question is how come diabetics are not being sheilded, Having had Covid and still recovering its not good if you get it if your diabetic, as I could not keep any medications down for a few weeks, with working in the Ambulance service and although in a control room the risk of catching it is still high i kknow this is where I have caught mine as i did not go out anywhere else, I just think being Diabetic and some other medical conditions are forgotten, why is more not being done to not only protect the extremley vulnerable but also the clinically vulnerable, when i do go back to work i will be nervouse as I dont want it again. Its not a rant its just something I have been thinking about.

Mhy theory is there are too many diabeticss so they dont want them off work not sure but I just dont know what the answer is.

thanks J

Although Diabetics had a higher incidences the most affected were still in the older age groups.

You have to remember it effects everyone differently, diabetic or not, there have been many diabetics with a mild case and say it felt just like a cold so based off your experience there are more that aren't as badly effected and you only have your own experience to pass judgement on, also there are people without diabetes that have had worse symptoms than those with diabetes, a cold can wildly effect a diabetics BG management so should they just not go out ever?

It has been said before that "diabetes" is too broad for the definition.
There is a huge difference between a 65 year old who is obese, has other comorbities and a Hb1Ac of 90 and an active 25 year old, no complications and a Hb1Ac of 45, for example.

I belive also that there were no recorded deaths in the under 50's with Diabetes in the UK.

Right at the start of this lot in the UK, where some folk who'd been skiing in the Alps had copped for it there and brought it back with them they interviewed a chap who'd just come out of hospital - he was 40-ish by the looks and said he was diabetic. Admittedly presumably otherwise pretty hale and healthy since he'd been skiing - but I remember thinking 'Good! - might be some hope for some of us lot, then!' - and I still think that.

My daughter's doctors have all said that because she is well controlled, she is at no greater risk than anyone else. I can go with that, she's having some mental health issues at the moment and school is the only thing keeping her going, so the risk to her health from not being at school is probably greater than the risk from being there right now. The school are doing everything they can to minimise the risks. I don’t particularly want to catch the virus either, but it isn’t going away any time soon and you can’t stay imprisoned in your house forever. I think using common sense regarding social distancing and wearing masks is the best idea.

Sorry you had such a rough time with Covid @Jan1967

Hope you manage to recover your confidence when the time comes to return to work
