Was diagnosed with T2 about a month ago.

Am in my mid-50's. My weight has largely been hidden by my large frame (think 2nd row in rugby) and height 6ft 4". At my heaviest (in 2015) I was about 25 stone I just looked very very heavy rather than morbidly obese. Admittedly at that weight I felt really unhealthy so got myself down to about 18/19 stone where I've been ever since.

In November '22 out of the bIue noticed I was going to the toilet rather a lot ie up to 9 times a day. I knew straight away it was almost certainly T2. Kinda ignored it because I've got a phobia of needles especially blood taking. Put myself on a diet at 19 stone and excersise regime on 1st January 2023.

Finally went to the doctor in late February regarding another issue and forced myself to get the blood test. After the initial one came back as high the second confirmed a result of 80.

Am on 4x500mg of Metformin a day. After this mornings run I'm down to 16.5 stone. Dr. has set a target of 15 stone.

1000% of my problem can be put down to 2 things 1) I'm a complete Carb Monster 2) portion sizes.

I don't expect any one to believe me but I don't eat any junk/processed food. There's a bottle of Heinz Ketchup in the cupboard but that's it all other food I eat is made from scratch just way way too much.

Anyway have lots of questions but that's my story so far.

CarbMonster.

Welcome to the forum @indio02

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but good to know that you were able to take the step to get checked, even though it’s a source of significant anxiety for you.

You are not alone in describing yourself as a ‘carb monster’… we have several forum members who felt just the same at diagnosis - but many have been able to switch to a way of eating that they really enjoy, and which suits their metabolisms a whole lot better.

Some find that going full-on is the best approach for them. while for others a series of small, more modest steps is a better bet.

Just like there is no one-size-fits-all menu that works for everyone, there’s no one approach that everyone should follow either.

Low calorie for weight loss… moderate carb reduction… low carb… very low carb… mediterranean… wholefood… shake-based very low calorie short intervention… The list goes on!

Have a read around the forum, and see which approaches ‘feel right’, then give one a go and see how you get on. Depending on your results (and your aspirations) you could adapt it, ramp it up, or switch to a completely different aporoach.

It’s about finding a system that works for you 🙂
