My question do you think i should go back to gp and ask to be refered to them again or should i take up OHs paying offer of having an xray done privatley

Easy one for me @gail2.... go to your GP, tell them what is going on and ask them what can be done to sort it. They should either refer you back to orthopaedics or somebody else who should be able to help.

Just a word off warning your other halves Insurance might not cover as it is an exsiting condition.

Do an econsult to ask GP for advice on next steps

didt think of that but its not on his insurance he talking about paying for it outright What i think i will do is ring my gp pratice and see if i can appoiment b4 feb

I have every sympathy, 3 years ago I had an accident and ruptured my patella tendon, fractured the head of the tibia with a tibial avulsion, surgery and a pin to fix but I am in constant pain with it, very stiff to bend and no strength and it gives way randomly, I did go back to see the consultant and he thought the tendon was too long, which was making the knee unstable . Another consultant took over and ordered an MRI which I had but never had any feedback from it.
A couple of weeks ago something in the other knee suddenly went pop and had been constantly painful ever since, I went to the GP and he has asked for an MRI on both knees as I was sure the problem with the 'good' knee was caused by putting more pressure on it because of the ongoing problem with the injured knee. Currently taking max doses of ibuprofen and paracetamol. Totally fed up with it.
Like you I was considering getting a private appointment but I have received the appointment for the 'urgent' MRI for 14th Jan. So I think I will wait and see.
Only you can make the decision what to do, I think pain is the hardest thing to describe to someone else.

You have my sympathy @gail2 and @leading lights chronic pain and stiffness is no joke to live with. I think you make a very good point @Leadinglights that we put stress on other parts of our body when we try and compensate for the injury, often without realising it at the time. I hope you manage to get your referrals to ortho as soon as possible in the new year.<3

Sorry to hear you are still in so much pain. Let us know how you get on at A&E tomorrow.

because the person whos going with me cant do today
Hopefully they will be able to identify the problem if you go to A&E and give you some treatment.
I made the mistake of going to the GP who referred me for an urgent MRI and I waited 6 weeks having it done last Tuesday, apparently the result is looked at by the radiologist in 4-6 weeks and a report sent to the GP. I said doesn't the GP see the images and they said 'Oh we don't want GPs to be looking at those' which sounded quite disrespectful.
Needless to say the knee improved with max pain medication and a knee support.
Anyway I have an MRI on the other knee, the previously injured one which is still giving problems after 3 years next Tuesday.
