We recently found several packets of microwave rice that my son had left behind (well in date, I hasten to add!).

So Mr Marten had some of the pilau rice the other night while I was out at a meeting. The next morning I decided to try the cold half he'd left in the fridge for lunch. I tested beforehand at 5.6; two hours later it was 6.7; and three hours later it was back to 5.6. I thought that was quite reasonable :D. There are still two packets of basmati rice to try.... 😉

I’m sure that the resistant starch thing works. We were away a couple of years ago, and ate out at an Italian restaurant a couple of nights, and I had pasta. It didn’t spike me like it normally does. I concluded that they probably cooked it in advance and reheated it.

You can read all about it right here:-

Thanks so much for that… I am beyond excited to try this. Will report my findings. Just out of interest would this work with chocolate cake … asking for a friend

Microwave rice and instant noodles (specifically maggi noodles) are my surprising "can tolerate" foods 😉

@EmmaL76 tell your "friend" test some choc cake for me too :D

Dont mind those packet rices, flavoured ones really good & quick to make in microwave.

Lesson here is never right off foods until you try them & test, doesnt matter what others can cannot tolerate.

Yes, I knew about the resistant starch thing but had never tried it out. Happy days, then! 🙂

Hi! I cooked some M&S brown long grain rice and had a whopping two ladles full on my plate. Had this with a ladle full of cooked frozen peas and homemade marinaded chicken …..two hours later I tested 6.7mmol. Super impressed …the rice is a keeper for sure and I’m happy about the peas too. I was dubious about the marinade which consisted of brown sugar, low sodium soy sauce, and Heinz tomato ketchup….but again a nice surprise!

That's why a lot of NHS dietician advice is to to for brown, wholegrain, high fibre, low GI food.
It works well for many of us.

Just tried half a pack of ready rice ( brown basmati) and it didn’t raise my blood sugar, happy days, next experiment cooked and cooled then reheated pasta, will keep you all posted x
