Hello guys,
So I'm new here and just looking to tell my story and hear what some other people in the same position as myself have to say! I'm in my early 20's and recently diagnosed.
The last two months or so I had been feeling very unwell, lost a lot of weight, about 3-4 stone to be exact and couldn't get rid of the unquenchable thirst and need to use the bathroom. I blew this off as a few different simple things, the last thing in the world that I would have thought of is type 1 Diabetes.
So then about a month ago I went to bed as usual and started to feel very sick in my stomach, and began vomiting and that continued on and off for the whole night, by morning time I was completely drained, my face had sunk in, I was badly dehydrated and needed to see the doctor. The GP came to my house as an emergency, took a urine sample and told me my ketones were 5, my blood sugars were 28 and I needed to go to hospital straight away. I got to hospital fairly soon after and was put on a few different drips from what I can remember. The following 6-7 days I got so much information from doctors, nurses, diabetic team members and everyone in between. I was sent home then towards the end with ketones of about 1.9 and blood sugar of around 10. This soon settled down over the coming few days and for the last few weeks I haven't gone above 8 in my blood sugars and 0.1 in ketones.
My whole life has changed but I feel better than ever, I'm mentally feeling better, physically feeling better and I'm out of the house much more than ever. Yes I am taking 4 insulin injections a day, but that is a small price to pay for good health!
I am very interested in hearing everyone from everyone else!
Hope you are all having a great weekend.
